Chapter 299 A Divorced Woman

Evelyn was momentarily stunned and instinctively asked, "What is it?"

"I'm thinking about your previous life," the man spoke, taking his gaze off Evelyn and looking into the distance.

Evelyn heard Marina's words and said, "You must not think that I had a hard time in the village after seeing the scene today, right?"

Dermot didn't answer, clearly indicating that he did think so.

Especially seeing Evelyn not arguing with Arianna Morgan and her daughter, he was angry but also felt heartache. He couldn't imagine how difficult it must have been for Evelyn to grow up like this.

"It's not like that. When my grandfather was alive, I lived a good life," Evelyn raised the corner of her mouth. "My second aunt, Emily Morgans, and the others didn't dare to provoke me at all. They would avoid me when they saw me."

The man frowned, clearly somewhat doubtful.

"I also had my brother Niall back then, and they also protected me. Even the dogs in the village wouldn't dare to mess with me," Evelyn said with a smile. Looking back now, those days were really beautiful.

Seeing Evelyn's bright smile, Dermot felt a bit sad. "Do you regret marrying me and leaving Moris City?"

Evelyn turned her head and met his gaze. "There might be a tiny bit of regret."

"But my grandfather passed away, and this was his wish. I will definitely fulfill it," she added. Besides, she couldn't stay here forever. People have to grow up.

"I'm sorry, Evey," Dermot looked at her. "I feel like I owe you a formal apology."

"It has been a long time, there's no need to bring this up," Evelyn waved her hand, not daring to continue looking into Dermot's eyes.

For some reason, her eyes felt a bit sore.

"From now on, let me protect you. A lifetime of never leaving," the man suddenly changed the subject and said this.

The surroundings were silent, with the silver moonlight falling on the two of them, and a gentle breeze blowing. Perhaps it was the atmosphere that made Evelyn feel impulsive.

"I..." her words were cut off.

"Dermot!"

Emily Morgans excitedly pushed the door open.

The door of the courtyard was just about to open when Emily noticed that Evelyn was also there, and the two of them were standing so close to each other, igniting the fire of jealousy.

"What are you two doing?" she questioned directly.

Evelyn frowned, and Dermot's face turned pale.

In that moment just now, Dermot clearly felt that Evelyn was about to agree, but he was interrupted, and now he felt the urge to kill Emily Morgans.

Evelyn did not answer her question, but instead asked, "Why are you here so late and not sleeping?"

"I... I came to find Dermot, not you," she replied in a rude tone, not giving Evelyn a nice expression.

"Fine, you two talk, I'll go to sleep first." She said, not forgetting to give Dermot a teasing look. Even a fool could guess why Emily Morgans came to find him.

Evelyn went back to her room, Emily Morgans snorted, and then looked at Dermot, a smile appeared on her face.

"Dermot, are you unable to sleep? Shall I accompany you for a chat?" She leaned towards Dermot, blushing and feeling a bit embarrassed.

Dermot looked down at her and said in a cold tone, "Miss Dong, you are Evelyn's cousin, I don't want to embarrass you for her sake, but I hope you can show some restraint."

"Dermot..."

"I am not interested in you." Dermot was straightforward.

Emily Morgans took two steps back, but didn't give up, "Then who are you interested in? Evelyn?"

"Yes, I do like her." Dermot didn't see any reason to hide it.

Emily Morgans clenched her fist in frustration, "What do you see in her, a divorced woman? Dermot, don't let her deceive you!"
