Chapter 636 They're Still Too Green
Randy lapsed into silence for a moment before a chuckle escaped his lips. "This could only imply that he was either feigning his feelings before, or he's pretending now," he mused.
The elderly butler, too, contemplated for a moment before voicing his own thoughts. "I suspect he was pretending before. Perhaps he didn't genuinely care for this Evelyn, but merely knew she was the heiress of the Kyte family, hence his persistent pursuit."
"Now that he's a part of the Doyle family, he likely feels that Evelyn doesn't meet his newfound standards, eliminating the need for pretense."
There were many such individuals, who prioritized their own interests above all else. Their actions were guided by the benefits they stood to gain, regardless of their personal sentiments.
Randy, upon hearing this, found some truth in the butler's words. "Keep observing. Whether it's pretense or not, the truth will eventually reveal itself with time."
"Sir, why do you insist on recalling those from the Doyle family who are abroad? Are you genuinely considering handing over the reins of the Doyle family to them?" The old butler was puzzled. Having served Randy for many years, he thought he knew his master well, yet Randy's recent decision left him baffled.
At this, Randy chuckled lightly. "Do you believe either of my sons, or those grandsons of mine, possess the capability to take over the Doyle family?"
He didn't even consider his three granddaughters, as the prospect of the Doyle family falling into their hands was inconceivable.
"Haven't you always held high expectations? In recent years, everyone assumed you would pass the Doyle family to him," the old butler pointed out.
Gerald Doyle, Randy's eldest son, had been gradually managing the Doyle family affairs in recent years. Everyone assumed the Doyle family would eventually become his.
But Randy's current actions contradicted this assumption.
Speaking of his eldest son, Randy could only sigh. "He does possess a keen business sense, and entrusting the Doyle family to him could lead to prosperous growth, but..."
He paused momentarily before continuing, "His methods are ruthless. Whether siblings or children, anyone who poses a threat to him will not meet a favorable end."
"At my age, I cannot bear to witness any harm befall my sons and grandsons, so I dare not entrust the Doyle family to him."
Hearing this, the old butler thought of Gerald Doyle's usual conduct and shivered. "What about Raymond? He's not as ruthless as his brother."
"Indeed, he is kinder, but he often lacks decisiveness. If the Doyle family were handed to him, progress might stagnate for years," Randy sighed, acknowledging the shortcomings of both his sons.
Hearing this, the old butler realized that Randy had grown disillusioned with his two sons. "What about the two young masters? You don't hold them in high regard either?"
He believed that the two young masters were both competent and of good character, and thus capable of taking over the Doyle family.
Randy shook his head in resignation. "They're still too green."
"This time, I've allowed Dermot and the others to return to the Doyle family. On one hand, I want them to feel a sense of urgency, and on the other, I hope to groom them through Dermot and his peers."
Upon hearing this, the old butler had a sudden realization. "Using Dermot and the others as a sharpening stone?"
"Indeed, that's the plan," Randy confirmed. He couldn't fathom letting his life's work fall into the hands of outsiders.
To him, even though Dermot bore the Doyle surname, he was still an outsider.
The conversation between master and servant remained a secret. At the entrance of the Doyle family estate, Evelyn was halted in her tracks before she could board the car by a seemingly jovial young man.
"Hello, may I hitch a ride?" The man wore a friendly smile, appearing as a cheerful youth.
Had he not emerged from the Doyle estate, Evelyn might have mistaken him for a university student who couldn't catch a cab.
What a pity, she thought.
