Chapter 688: You Want Me to Support Him?
Chapter 688: You Want Me to Support Him?
Considering Jeffrey's words, Evelyn reflected on the dysfunctional dynamics within the Doyle family, understanding Jeffrey's perspective.
After a moment of contemplation, she smiled and suggested, "Since you have no desire to inherit the Doyle family and simply wish to prevent Gerald from doing so, why not consider supporting Dermot? If he were to inherit the family, it wouldn't impact you, right?"
Jeffery looked at Evelyn in shock, blinking in disbelief, "You want me to support him?"
Evelyn nodded.
"Did you and Dermot really get divorced? Why do I feel like you haven't?" Jeffery looked at Evelyn suspiciously. If they were divorced, Evelyn shouldn't help Dermot.
Evelyn was left speechless and rolled her eyes at him. "What's wrong with my suggestion? Besides, you have no interest in inheriting the Doyle family."
"I'm not interested doesn't mean my dad isn't, or my sister Melissa Doyle isn't. If they find out I'm supporting Dermot, they'll kill me." Not everyone in his family was like him.
The Doyle family was highly esteemed, and their vast wealth made them the envy of many. Despite Jeffrey's shortcomings, he acknowledged that it would be most advantageous for him if either his father or sister inherited the family fortune.
It seemed there was no way to persuade Jeffery to help Dermot. Evelyn felt a bit regretful.
Seeing Jeffery's naive look, she thought she could persuade him, but it turned out he wasn't that foolish.
She responded and didn't say anything more.
"Seriously? You're that realistic? Just because I won't help Dermot, you don't plan to talk to me anymore?" Seeing Evelyn like this, it was clear she wanted him to leave.
Evelyn gazed up at him and stated, "I have no involvement with Dermot. I made that suggestion for your benefit. Since you already have your own thoughts, I have nothing further to add." For his benefit? Jeffrey felt quite skeptical; their relationship didn't appear that intimate.
Just as he was about to continue chatting with her, Melissa walked over to them, "Jeffery, what are you talking about?"
"Melissa." Jeffery stood up. He was still very respectful towards Melissa.
"Nothing much, just chatting," he said.
Melissa nodded, looked at Evelyn, and extended her hand, "Hello, Mrs. Kyte. I'm Melissa Doyle from the Doyle family."
"Hello." Evelyn stood up and shook her hand.
Melissa was very polite. Although Evelyn didn't want to have too much interaction with the Doyle family, she couldn't be rude.
Melissa withdrew her hand with a smile and said with embarrassment, "Jeffery is still a kid. If he said anything to offend you, please don't take it to heart."
"Melissa, I'm not a kid..."
"Shut up. I'm talking to Mrs. Kyte. Do you have a say?" Melissa interrupted him, not giving Jeffery a chance to speak.
Jeffery pouted and looked at Evelyn with a wronged expression, hoping she would say something for him.
Evelyn caught Jeffrey's glance and chuckled, "Mrs. Doyle, you're overthinking. Mr. Doyle isn't that childish."
"That's good," Melissa nodded, "I'll take him to meet a few people. I'll invite you to dinner another day. I hope you can make it."
"No problem." Since Melissa wanted to befriend her, Evelyn wouldn't refuse. Having more friends was better than having more enemies.
Jeffery had no desire to attend. Uninterested in inheriting the company, he naturally lacked interest in socializing.
But Melissa didn't give him a chance to refuse, dragging him away forcefully, and they quickly disappeared from Evelyn's sight.
