Chapter 835 Be Careful
The next couple of days were pretty uneventful. Evelyn began to slowly get used to going to the hospital for work every day, occasionally checking in at the company and mostly just living her life. It was way more pleasant than she expected.
When Evelyn heard about Eugene's death, Dermot happened to show up. Maybe because he had rushed to help her before, she didn't mind him as much now.
She was not planning to agree to anything; she was going with the flow.
After hanging up with the police, Evelyn felt conflicted. She looked at Dermot, hesitated, and finally asked, "Was it you?"
"What?" Dermot looked confused, not getting what she meant.
"Eugene is dead." Eugene was supposed to face trial soon, maybe even get life in prison, but now he was dead. Something was definitely off.
She thought it might be Dermot, so she asked.
Dermot quickly caught on and shook his head. "No."
"Really?" Evelyn was puzzled. If it wasn't Dermot, then who?
She thought, 'It can't be Dad, right?'
Evelyn thought that was impossible. Blake had already left the country, and no one knew where he was. Plus, if he wanted to do it, he wouldn't have waited this long.
Dermot's smile was bitter. "Do you really trust me that little now?"
"It's not that. I can't think of anyone else." She frowned, feeling uneasy.
Even though she hated Eugene, she never wanted him to die like this. In her mind, no matter how bad Eugene's mistakes were, he should be judged by the court.
If the court sentenced him to death, then so be it. If not, she wouldn't lose sleep over it.
But now, he died mysteriously.
Dermot thought for a moment. He had some guesses but kept them to himself.
"Don't overthink it. It wasn't us. We have a clear conscience," Dermot said with a smile, then added, "So, can we have dinner together?"
"Are you that idle? I heard Gerald and James have teamed up recently. Aren't you worried?" Evelyn had been keeping an eye on the Doyle family, so she noticed the changes.
Most importantly, the bar she had been thinking about had opened. After training with Luke, Jennifer had become the manager, so Evelyn now had her own sources of information.
Dermot didn't show any particular emotional change and smiled. "Are you worried about me?"
Evelyn rolled her eyes.
"Don't worry, everything's under control. If they don't make a move, I wouldn't know how to act." The more they did, the more mistakes they'd make, giving Dermot a chance to take them down.
Evelyn didn't know all the details, but seeing Dermot so calm, she didn't push it and just reminded him, "Be careful."
If Gerald and James tried to kill him again, he might not be as lucky as last time.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine." He wouldn't let something like amnesia happen again.
In the end, Evelyn got into Dermot's car, thinking she owed him for saving her last time, so she'd treat him to a meal as a way of repaying the favor.
But Dermot saw it differently. To him, Evelyn's action meant progress in their relationship, and he was really in a good mood.
