Chapter 1119: You're Overthinking It
Evelyn spent the whole afternoon chillin' in Joshua's office, and it wasn't until evening that they hopped on the chopper back to the island.
"Did you used to commute like this every day?" Evelyn couldn't help but ask.
Even though the flight was just an hour, Evelyn still thought it was a pain.
"Nah, when I was working before, I mostly stayed in Danista and only came here sometimes," Joshua replied. But now things were different; he couldn't trust leaving Evelyn in Danista, and he didn't want to go days without seeing her, so he had to commute daily.
Hearing this, Evelyn got what he meant. "You don't have to come back every day. It's not like I'm gonna run away."
"Evelyn, are you worried about me?" Joshua grinned, feeling like Evelyn was concerned about him.
Evelyn was speechless, though she didn't say it out loud. "I just think it's unnecessary."
"For me, it's necessary." Being able to see Evelyn every day was something he had always dreamed of.
With that, Evelyn had nothing more to say and chose to stay quiet.
The plane landed quickly, and the two walked straight to the castle, each heading to their rooms.
Once back in his room, Joshua asked Brandon, "Where did she go today?"
Brandon answered truthfully, puzzled, "Mr. Garcia, what are you suspecting?"
"Nothing much, just a bit worried." Although he couldn't see anything wrong now, Joshua felt that Evelyn wasn't someone who would give up easily.
If she were to get angry or curse at him, Joshua could accept it; he was even prepared for it.
But Evelyn had been too calm lately, so calm that it made him uneasy.
"You're overthinking it. Maybe Ms. Kyte has just come to terms with things and thinks you're quite good," Brandon comforted.
After all, he thought his boss was great, and a woman like Evelyn, who didn't appreciate it, should be dealt with.
Joshua nodded and waved him off, "Go rest."
He hoped he was overthinking it and that Evelyn had genuinely come to terms and was willing to stay.
Three more peaceful days passed, and Evelyn was growing impatient. Why wasn't Mary ready yet? Could she do it or not?
If she couldn't get her off the island, Evelyn felt she needed to come up with another plan quickly. She couldn't just keep waiting.
Just as she was getting anxious, Mary pushed open her door. "Tomorrow, Joshua will be back very late, and after that, he won't leave the island for a long time. So tomorrow is your only chance."
Evelyn was speechless, thinking, if I don't succeed tomorrow, won't I be out of chances for a long time?
But she didn't say it out loud and nodded, "Oh, how do you plan to get me off the island?"
"Tomorrow, I'll hide you in a box, and you'll leave with the supply ship. Once you reach the shore, you'll have to figure it out on your own." She could get Evelyn to Danista, which was already quite good. Besides, she never intended for Evelyn to leave Danista alive, so she hadn't considered what came next.
Evelyn wasn't worried, as she had already contacted Dermot in advance. As long as she could get to Danista, Dermot would find her.
"Okay." Evelyn nodded in agreement. No matter what, tomorrow was her only chance.
Even though she knew Mary wasn't a good person, Evelyn had to take this gamble.
Seeing her agree, Mary breathed a sigh of relief. "Then get a good rest and gather your strength. I don't want you to fail tomorrow."
No matter what, she had to get Evelyn off the island. Only if she died outside could Mary escape responsibility.
If Evelyn died on the island, Joshua would definitely think it had something to do with her.
