Chapter 1143: Probably Because I Don't Like You

Evelyn gave a nod, feeling pretty stoked about his attitude. "Listen up, Sarah's my family. Mess with her, and you're toast."

These days, the Kyte family could squash the Kartland family without breaking a sweat.

But she didn't want it to come to that; she still hoped Sarah and Keith could be happy together.

"Chill," Keith said with a sly grin. "If I didn't really dig her, why would I be rushing to tie the knot?"

When Keith found the one, he didn't want to waste a second and wished he could marry her on the spot, never letting anyone else get a shot.

"How come I never saw this lovey-dovey side of you before?" Evelyn teased, still holding onto some of her old grudges against Keith.

With Keith's rep as a player, it was tough to see him as a stand-up guy.

Keith looked up and said, "Probably 'cause I don't like you."

Evelyn went quiet.

"She doesn't need you to like her," Dermot cut in, shooting Keith a look.

If Keith had really liked Evelyn back then, Dermot would've lost it and decked him.

"Alright, alright," Keith nodded, chuckling.

Sarah came back soon, and the group chatted and ate, wrapping up the meal in no time.

As Sarah and Keith left, Evelyn was about to ask Ruby if she needed a ride, but Ruby had already flagged down a cab. "Evelyn, Mr. Doyle, thanks for the meal. Later!"

Ruby took off quickly, leaving Evelyn a bit amused. "I don't mind; why's she so worried?"

She felt that even if she and Dermot got together, Ruby would still be her bestie. Evelyn wouldn't feel like Ruby was intruding at all.

"Do you know why some people stay good friends?" Dermot looked at her and said calmly, "Because they both know how to think of each other and not make things awkward, so their friendship lasts."

"I get what you're saying," Evelyn sighed. She got it but didn't think it was necessary.

Dermot opened the car door. "Hop in; let's head back."

"Okay," Evelyn nodded and slid into the passenger seat.

On the way back, Dermot suddenly spoke up, "Actually, Keith's got a point. When you really like someone, you can't wait to marry them."

"Are you talking about him or yourself?" Evelyn glanced at him and asked.

Dermot chuckled and didn't deny it. "Both of us just want to keep our loved ones close forever."

"Just having someone by your side, Mr. Doyle, isn't enough; you gotta use your charm to keep them around," Evelyn said with a smile.

Dermot laughed heartily as he drove. "True that. So, do you think I've got enough charm to keep you?"

"Yep," Evelyn replied. Dermot was definitely a charmer.

Dermot laughed again, feeling pretty good.

They got to the villa soon. It was still early when they got home. Dermot headed to the study to handle some work while Evelyn grabbed a book to read nearby.

She had planned to read in her bedroom, but Dermot insisted she stay in the study with him, so Evelyn agreed.

Evelyn looked up at the sound of Dermot typing on the keyboard. She watched his long fingers tapping the keys rhythmically. In the dim light, it was quite a sight.

Her gaze slowly moved up, settling on Dermot's sharp features. His focused expression as he worked made him even more attractive, drawing Evelyn in even more.
