Chapter 518 Beat It

Lucia and her buddies watched Evelyn exit, sneering. "Lucia, your sister really doesn't know how to show gratitude," one commented. "Turning her nose up at these gowns—she must think highly of herself."

"I get it. She's probably never seen anything nice growing up, so of course, now she wants nothing but the best," Lucia scoffed. "Classic nouveau riche mentality."

"That's an accurate comparison. She's essentially the epitome of a nouveau riche," they laughed, looking disdainfully at Evelyn, who was standing at the entrance.

However, Evelyn ignored their scorn and didn't have to wait long before Dermot's car pulled up in front of her.

He stepped out, holding a box. Evelyn was about to ask why he'd come when he handed her the box, "Try this on?"

Inside was a light blue gown that was simply breathtaking at first glance.

After a moment, Evelyn regained her composure, "Did you come all this way to bring me a gown?"

"It's your night to debut in front of Columbian high society, and I couldn't let you show up to the wolves looking anything less than spectacular."

Despite his inner reluctance to share Evelyn's charm with others, he knew what needed to be done for her sake.
Loving someone means putting their needs before your own, a realization that had only recently dawned on Dermot.

With a warm feeling in her heart, Evelyn accepted the dress with a smile. It was truly wonderful to have someone considerate by her side. "Thank you," she said.

"It's the least I could do." Dermot regretted not having been there to protect Evelyn before but swore to himself that from now on, he would be her guardian.

Dermot followed Evelyn into the boutique, and heads turned as they walked in. The striking Dermot caught the attention of Lucia and the others; it would be a challenge to find a second such dashing figure even in all of Columbia.

As Evelyn headed to the fitting room, Lucia approached Dermot. "Hello, I'm Evelyn's sister. May I ask... what exactly is your relationship with my sister?"

Dermot gave her a cool glance. "That's none of your business." Evelyn's dislike for her sister was no secret, and he had no intention of warm feelings for someone she disapproved of.

An awkward blush crept onto Lucia's cheeks. Despite the snub, she was a Kyte, and in her eyes, equally as attractive as her sister. Biting back her anger, Lucia continued with a strained smile, "I meant no offense. I'm just concerned for her. She's been hurt before in a divorce, and I don't want her to go through that again."

At these words, Dermot's expression darkened further, thinking that Lucia must feel pretty smug, presuming that no man from a respectable Columbian family would marry a divorcee.

"Get out!" Dermot spat out the word, showing her no respect.

Just as Lucia was about to retort, the fitting room door opened, and Evelyn emerged, commanding the full attention of the room. Draped in a pale blue gown, her already fair skin seemed to glow, leaving everyone, including Dermot and even Lucia, momentarily speechless.

"Isn't that a one-of-a-kind haute couture piece from Maison D?" whispered someone in the group, their voice tinged with unmistakable envy.

Why should Evelyn, a woman from the countryside, flaunt a dress they couldn't even dream of wearing? Lucia seethed with resentment – she had wanted to buy that dress herself only to be told it had been reserved in advance, and now here it was, a gift from this man to Evelyn. Who was he? A member of some powerful Columbian family?
