Chapter 1045: They Will Misunderstand
"I heard Mr. Henry Doyle came to Columbia, so we came to visit him," Luke said, glancing at Benjamin in the wheelchair.
It was clear this wasn't Luke's idea; Benjamin wanted to see Henry.
Evelyn was unsure what to do, not even sure if she should let them in.
Just then, Dermot walked over. His expression changed when he saw them. "What are you doing here?"
"Dermot, I want to see your grandfather," Benjamin said slowly, still recovering.
Dermot frowned. "Grandpa doesn't want to see you."
"Dermot, I know you hate me, but he's still my father. Does he really not want to see me?" Benjamin said with a bitter smile.
Dermot pressed his lips together. Since Henry came to Columbia, he hadn't mentioned Benjamin. Dermot wasn't sure if Henry even knew what had happened to Benjamin.
Seeing Dermot's silence, Luke spoke up, "Since we're here, let them meet. They're father and son. It's not our place to interfere."
Dermot glared at him. "What business is it of yours?"
"Do you think I wanted to come?" Luke retorted. If Benjamin hadn't insisted, he wouldn't have wanted to see Dermot either.
Despite their differences, their relationship had somewhat improved.
Dermot glanced upstairs, hesitated, then let them in. "If you upset Grandpa, I'll personally throw you out."
He didn't trust Benjamin at all.
Henry was already in poor health, and Dermot feared Benjamin might upset him further.
"Don't worry. He's my father. I won't harm him," Benjamin sighed.
Inside, Luke pushed Benjamin to find Henry. Evelyn was about to close the door when Keith and Sarah appeared.
"Evelyn, you didn't expect us, did you?" Keith teased, grinning.
Evelyn smiled, remembering their first meeting. He hadn't been this lighthearted back then.
'Love really can change a person,' she thought.
Ignoring Keith, she greeted Sarah. "Hello, Sarah."
"I didn't plan to come. He insisted, saying it would be livelier with more people," Sarah said, embarrassed, especially since Keith was holding her hand.
At her age, she had long lost her illusions about love, but meeting Keith had changed her.
"This isn't your home. Is it really appropriate for us to be here?" Sarah asked, worried.
Before Evelyn could respond, Dermot said, "It's okay. Consider this her home. You are Evelyn's friends, so you are my friends. Welcome to the New Year's Eve party."
"Dermot, I didn't expect you to say something nice for once," Keith joked.
Dermot ignored him and let them in.
Evelyn felt both shy and annoyed. "Saying things like that will make them misunderstand."
"So what?" Dermot asked.
Evelyn bit her lip, and Dermot continued, "I meant what I said. My home is your home. If you want, you can live here forever."
"Who wants that?" Evelyn shot him a glare and turned to leave.
Dermot watched her flustered retreat and couldn't help but laugh. It was rare to see Evelyn looking shy.
