Chapter 255 You Can't

Seeing him busy alone in the kitchen, Evelyn felt a bit guilty, "Aidan, Niall, why don't you take a rest, I'll go to the kitchen and see."
"Go on, go on." Niall waved his hand at her. "We're all family, no need to be so polite."

Evelyn got up and left the living room, walking into the kitchen. Aidan, however, frowned at Niall's previous statement. "What do you mean? Since when did Dermot become part of Evelyn's family?"

"It's only a matter of time. Look at the relationship between him and Evelyn, they're not far from getting remarried," Niall chuckled, intentionally twisting the knife in Aidan's heart.

He wanted Aidan to understand that Evelyn could never be with him.

"Don't you know how Dermot treated Evelyn before? And now you're supporting him? Niall, do you really consider Evelyn as your sister?" Aidan was angry, his anger had started when he saw Dermot at Evelyn's house, and Niall's words only added fuel to the fire.

Niall shrugged helplessly and said to Aidan, "I do consider her as my sister. That's why I want her to be happy."

"Dermot can't make her happy!" Aidan said coldly.

"You're right, he can't. But can you?"

Niall's smile disappeared as he looked at Aidan, a chilling aura emanating from him. "I thought that if I said so much, you would understand at least a little. But now it seems that I was expecting too much."

"In my opinion, as long as Evelyn is happy, it doesn't matter who she is with. Even as her brother, I support her. What about you? Can you support her?"

Aidan gritted his teeth, his face turning unpleasant. "If it doesn't matter who she's with, then why not me?"

"No, you can't!" Niall looked at him, somewhat annoyed. "Evelyn won't accept you, she won't be with you."

"How do you know if you never try?" Aidan countered.

"Isn't her attitude obvious enough? Do you really want her to become a stranger to you?" Niall was frustrated. How could Aidan not see clearly?

Aidan fell silent.

Niall was right. Evelyn's attitude was indeed clear.

But... he still couldn't accept it.

The two of them fell into silence, neither of them speaking until Evelyn and Dermot came out with the dishes, only then did they notice something was wrong.

"What's happened?" Evelyn asked, puzzled.

Niall shook his head. "Nothing."

He got up and walked towards the dining table, looking at the table full of dishes, he exclaimed, "Dermot made all of this?"

"Yes," Evelyn nodded, feeling a bit embarrassed. "You know, Niall, I can't cook."

"That's true. You've never cooked once in your life." Niall had no doubt now, all these dishes must be made by Dermot.

He looked at the dishes on the table, then at Dermot. It all seemed surreal. "I never expected Mr. Doyle to be able to cook, and it looks like everything is delicious too."

"Sit down and taste it, if it's good, come again next time." Dermot smiled and poured Niall a drink.

Evelyn looked at him, wondering. She felt that this man seemed to treat this place as his own home. Oh well, considering the effort he put into preparing such a huge spread of dishes, Evelyn decided not to argue with him.

The three of them sat down, but Aidan didn't move. Evelyn looked at him and shouted, "Aidan, come and eat."
"Sure." Aidan stood up, though he didn't want to eat Dermot's cooking. But he didn't want to leave just like that either. Who knew what would happen between Evelyn and Dermot if he left? Even though he didn't want to, he had to stay here and watch, giving Dermot no chance.
