Chapter 957: You're Not Busy
The two returned to the table where Alex and Dermot were laughing and chatting about their work together.
Evelyn glanced at Ruby, who hadn't answered her earlier question about still liking Craig. Truth was, Ruby wasn't sure herself.
Even after turning Craig down multiple times, she still had feelings for him.
She'd think about him now and then; letting go wasn't as easy as she'd thought.
"Ruby," Alex called from across the table, noticing her zoning out. "What are you thinking about?"
"Huh? Oh, nothing," Ruby replied, a bit flustered. She couldn't admit she was thinking about Craig.
"If you ever need help, just ask," Alex offered. They were distant now, almost like strangers despite being old classmates.
Ruby nodded absentmindedly, not really getting what Alex meant. Did she need help with something? She wasn't sure.
Evelyn, sensing the awkward silence, jumped in. "Alex, do you live alone in Golombia? Are you married?"
"Yeah, I'm alone and not married," Alex replied.
Evelyn had guessed as much but asked anyway. "Must be pretty boring after work, huh?"
"Not really; I work a lot of overtime," Alex said. He was busy at the police station, working late and crashing as soon as he got home.
Evelyn smiled. "When you get some time off, we should all hang out. Ruby and I aren't usually very busy."
She mostly meant Ruby.
"Sure," Alex agreed, catching on that Evelyn was trying to set him up with Ruby.
He felt a bit more hopeful about his chances.
"You're not busy?" Dermot asked Evelyn, a bit annoyed.
Evelyn nodded. "Not as busy as you, for sure."
Dermot turned to Alex. "She's just saying that. If you want to ask someone out, go for Ruby."
"That's fine," Alex said, not minding. The three of them chatted and laughed, while Ruby stayed quiet.
She wasn't sure how to deal with Alex, so she didn't join in.
As they ate, they didn't notice someone else in the restaurant watching them—specifically, watching Ruby.
Dermot's sharp senses picked up on it. He glanced over and saw Craig, feeling uneasy.
Why was Craig here too?
Coincidence? Definitely not.
Evelyn saw Craig too but wasn't surprised. A controlling guy like him following them wasn't unexpected.
In Craig's mind, Ruby was still his. Seeing her with other men would definitely upset him.
Evelyn ignored him and kept chatting, but Dermot couldn't. He made an excuse to leave and walked over to Craig.
"What are you doing here?" Dermot asked, sitting across from him, looking serious.
