Chapter 938: That's It
At the Golombia Police Department, Evelyn and the others were questioned separately.
Evelyn didn't mind; she was the victim here. She was just worried about Dermot and Joshua since they had fired their guns. She wasn't sure if they'd get in trouble for it.
In another room, Alex faced Ruby. "So, you didn't know anything from start to finish?"
"Yeah," Ruby nodded. She really didn't know anything.
Alex didn't push further. "You can go now."
"Huh? That's it?" Ruby was surprised. The atmosphere had been so serious, she thought it was a big deal.
Alex stood up. "Let's go; I'll walk you out."
Still confused, Ruby followed Alex out. On the way, she asked, "What about the others?"
"You mean Evelyn?" Alex replied.
"Yeah, she's innocent too," Ruby said, worried.
Alex stopped and looked at her. "You really don't remember me?"
Ruby was puzzled. Had they met before?
Alex reminded her, "Your middle school deskmate; you always called me fatty."
Ruby's eyes widened in disbelief. "No way!"
"Why not? I just lost some weight. Can't you recognize me?" Alex had recognized Ruby right away; she was still as cute and silly as ever.
Ruby finally realized who he was and smiled. "You lost weight so well; I didn't recognize you."
"Go home. Your friend will be fine," Alex said, checking the time.
Ruby didn't leave. "Will she be held long? If not, I'll wait here."
Alex sighed. "Alright, you can wait."
With his assurance, Ruby felt better. Evelyn wouldn't be held long.
Alex went back inside, and Ruby waited by the roadside. She thought about everything and guessed some of what had happened.
She didn't blame Evelyn for getting her involved. She felt bad for not being able to help and didn't want Evelyn to take such risks for her.
"Do you know that guy?" Craig appeared beside her. He had been waiting at the entrance since they were brought in.
Evelyn had told him to call the police at the right time and find someone named Alex. She guessed Randy was already working with the higher-ups.
Craig didn't know how Evelyn knew about Alex, but he followed her instructions. She was right.
Ruby turned to see Craig. Her smile faded. "Yeah, why are you here?"
"I called the police. Why do you think I'm here?" Craig said, noticing her smile vanish. He felt frustrated.
Why did she smile at others but always looked cold toward him?
Ruby was surprised but said, "Thanks."
No matter what, Craig's actions had saved her.
