Chapter 698 A Marriage in Name Only
Chapter 698: A Marriage in Name Only
When Dora returned to the Kyte family, it was already two in the morning. As she intended to sneak back to her room, the hallway light suddenly flicked on.
Dora was startled, and her heart raced even faster when she saw that it was Evelyn: "Evey, you're still up now?"
"Aren't you also up? Coming back so late, what did you do outside?" Evelyn was smiling and her eyes were gleaming under the light, which gave the impression that nothing could be hidden from her.
Dora fought to contain her rising panic and spoke with a blank expression, "Lucia moved out, and feeling upset, I went to speak with a friend.""
"Oh, really?" Evelyn's lips curled into a mocking smile.
Had she not just received news from the person she had sent to follow Dora, who had seen Dora enter a hotel, she might have believed her.
Dora decided to end the conversation, sensing that Evelyn already knew everything. Despite realizing the impossibility of it all, she still felt a creeping sense of unease. "You should rest and get some sleep. You have work tomorrow, don't you?"
With that, Dora walked into her room, not caring what Evelyn thought.
Evelyn lingered in the hallway, gazing at Dora's room and then at Blake's room. She realized that since returning to the Kyte family, she had never seen them share a room.
It appeared that their marriage was merely a formality.
Although this didn't bother Evelyn much, she couldn't help but think of Blake. She couldn't allow him to be deceived, could she?
With this in mind, she ordered someone to find out who the man with Dora was that night. She needed to get to the bottom of it.
The next day, when Evelyn got up, Dora was unusually in the kitchen.
"Evey, you're up. Come have breakfast," Dora waved at her.
At the dining table, Blake was already eating breakfast. Evelyn walked over and looked at Dora suspiciously, "It's the first time we've had breakfast made by you since you came here."
Dora was overly hasty, quickly attempting to rectify her mistake with Blake, which could be seen as suspicious by anyone.
As they were eating breakfast together, Lucia returned.
Lucia, watching them from afar at the dining table, noticed the particularly harmonious atmosphere.
Overwhelmed with emotion, she couldn't contain her tears and burst into sobs.
Only then did they turn to see her arrival.
"Lucia? Why are you back?"
Dora quickly approached Lucia, who was crying heavily, feeling a pang of sadness. After all, Lucia was her daughter, and it pained her to see her so distraught.
"You didn't want me to come back, did you? Am I disturbing your happy family?" Lucia had suffered a lot from Wade, and now seeing this scene, she was furious.
Dora glared at her and scolded, "What nonsense are you talking about? Have you had breakfast? I'll make you some."
"Not yet," Lucia said.
Dora pulled Lucia over to sit down and got up to make breakfast.
Now, only Evelyn, Blake, and Lucia were left at the table, and the atmosphere became tense.
Lucia glared at Evelyn, still full of hatred.
Then she looked at Blake, her expression becoming complicated, "Dad."
Blake responded with a grunt, not even looking up at her.
""Dad, upon reflecting on our conversation yesterday, I understand your concerns were valid. I've decided not to move in with Wade right now and am considering moving back. How do you feel about that?" Lucia asked, feeling a bit anxious. She was reluctant to remain with Wade, uncertain about what the future held in that arrangement.
