Chapter 1176: Bella
Evelyn knew exactly what was running through his mind. With a sly grin, she said, "We got zilch for leads right now. Hitting up this fancy shindig might give us some clues."
"Go on, Howard, spill the beans to my dad. He'll be down for it." Evelyn was sure her dad would move mountains to find Bella.
And just like she thought, once Howard passed the message, Blake was on board without a second thought.
Howard was sweating bullets, but all he could do now was beef up security.
As night rolled in, Seabrook City's swankiest five-star hotel was buzzing with life.
The banquet was packed with Seabrook's elite, everyone schmoozing with their wine glasses in hand.
When Evelyn and Blake rolled up to the charity bash, it was just about to kick off. They snagged their seats and settled in.
Evelyn, wanting to keep a low profile while hunting for clues, picked a spot near the back. From there, she scoped out the room, clocking everyone who showed up.
Timothy and Constance were there too, a couple of rows ahead of Evelyn. They hadn't clocked Evelyn and Blake yet.
Evelyn thought the party was about to get rolling when, out of nowhere, the doors flew open, causing a stir among the guests.
"It's Nathaniel Flores!" someone shouted.
"He actually had the guts to bring Bella," someone else chimed in.
Hearing Bella's name made Evelyn and Blake snap to attention. They quickly turned their gaze toward the entrance.
There stood Nathaniel, with Bella in tow. Even from a distance, they looked classy as ever, despite their age.
Evelyn felt a whirlwind of emotions. She never thought the person her dad couldn't track down would just waltz in, and with another guy no less.
She glanced at her dad, worried. "Dad, you good?"
Blake didn't say a word. Evelyn noticed his eyes had gone red.
Clearly, Blake wasn't sweating the guy next to Bella; he was all about Bella herself.
Totally understandable. After all these years, who wouldn't get choked up seeing her again?
His stare was so intense that Bella seemed to feel it. Just as she was about to turn her head, Nathaniel led her to the front row, not giving her a chance to look around.
They hadn't spotted Blake, and Bella kept that weird feeling to herself. Sitting next to Nathaniel, she couldn't shake off a wave of disgust.
As the banquet kicked off, they announced that all the auction items were donated by the guests.
Evelyn, eager to dig up some dirt on Bella, tossed in an item too—a necklace Bella had left behind years ago.
She hoped someone who recognized the necklace might spill some info about Bella.
But she never expected Bella to show up at the bash, and with a dude by her side.
From the chatter, that guy seemed to be Nathaniel Flores?
Evelyn whipped out her phone and shot a quick message to Niall, asking him to dig up dirt on Nathaniel. He didn't seem like your average Joe, and Evelyn needed to tread carefully.
The auction kicked off with some small stuff that didn't catch Nathaniel's eye. He spent most of his time watching Bella. Whenever she showed even a flicker of interest in something, he would instantly place a bid.
