Chapter 959: I Have Only One Goal
Feeling the conversation was going nowhere, Dermot decided to wrap it up. "Don't worry. I won't meddle in Ruby and Alex's business."
"But let me be clear," Dermot said, eyes cold. "If you touch Evelyn, I won't hold back."
He knew Craig well. If Evelyn had set up Ruby and Alex, Craig might lash out at her.
Craig stayed silent, and Dermot didn't push it. Some things only need to be said once.
He stood up, ready to leave. "You should head back early."
Dermot then walked back to Evelyn. Whether Craig left or not was no longer his concern.
After dinner, the four of them strolled along the river.
Evelyn and Dermot walked ahead, giving Ruby and Alex some space.
"What did you say to Craig?" Evelyn asked, curious.
Dermot glanced at her and smiled. "Just the usual stuff."
"He doesn't plan to harm Ruby, does he?" Evelyn asked cautiously. If Craig had bad intentions, she needed to be ready.
Dermot sighed, understanding her worry. "Don't stress, Craig's changed. He won't do that."
Evelyn thought, 'That's not necessarily true. Craig's already watching them just for having dinner. If they get serious, can he handle it?'
"Evelyn," Dermot called. She looked at him, puzzled. "Craig's my friend. He's messed up before, but can you give him another chance?"
Evelyn was confused. "He doesn't even like me. Why should I give him a chance?"
If anyone should, it should be Ruby.
"You're Ruby's friend. If you give him a chance, Ruby might too." Though Dermot said he wouldn't interfere, he couldn't just watch. He could imagine how crushed Craig would be if Ruby and Alex got together.
To Craig, Ruby was his last hope. If that hope vanished, Dermot wasn't sure how he'd cope.
Evelyn stopped, looking serious. "Dermot, understand this: Ruby is my friend. I just want her to be happy. If she still loves Craig and wants to be with him, even if I disagree, I'll support her."
"But if she falls for Alex, I'll support that too. It doesn't matter if it's Craig or Alex. What matters is Ruby's happiness."
As long as Ruby was happy, that was all that mattered.
Seeing her serious expression, Dermot got her point and decided to change the subject. "Alright, let's talk about something else."
Even though Ruby and Craig were their friends, they had their own lives. Dermot thought it was better to focus on themselves.
After all, Evelyn still hadn't agreed to be with him yet.
