Chapter 681 That Day Will Never Come
Chapter 681 That Day Will Never Come
After being rejected by Evelyn, Hubert didn't become angry.
He realized that he would rather marry Evelyn than Lucia. Initially, upon learning about Lucia and Wade, Hubert was angered, but eventually, he felt relieved.
Not having to marry someone like Lucia was a significant relief for him.
"Ms. Kyte, there's no need to dismiss me so quickly. What if one day you unexpectedly fall in love with me?" Hubert said with a smile.
Women, if treated well and given some perks, would likely develop feelings for you.
Evelyn's mouth twitched, puzzled about Hubert's unwavering confidence. "Mr. Diaz, rest assured, that day will never come," she replied firmly, causing Hubert's face to darken involuntarily.
Hubert was about to say more when Evelyn cut him off, "Mr. Diaz, the banquet is starting. I need to attend to some tasks, so I won't be able to chat with you further." With that, Evelyn pulled Ruby away, avoiding any further interaction with Hubert.
She was keenly aware of his intentions, and it was her clarity that made her repulsed by his behavior. Hubert's actions were solely driven by personal gain, a notion that Evelyn found distasteful. While others might not see fault in Hubert's actions, Evelyn detested individuals like him.
Evelyn took Ruby to another corner. Seeing that Hubert didn't follow, Evelyn breathed a sigh of relief.
"Evelyn, you're really popular now," Ruby said, covering her mouth and laughing, clearly gloating.
Irritated, Evelyn shot her a glare and retorted, "If you keep laughing at me, do you believe I'll let them pester you instead?"
"My bad, my bad," Ruby quickly conceded, unable to handle those people.
Meanwhile, on the nearby stage, members of the Kyte and Allen families were delivering speeches, mostly consisting of pleasantries. Evelyn didn't need to listen to know what they were saying.
Her gaze couldn't help but fall on Wade. What are you thinking? Are you really going to marry Lucia for the sake of the family?
Fortunately, it's just an engagement now, not a wedding. Evelyn could only hope that Wade had other plans.
On stage, Lucia also picked up the microphone. Evelyn frowned, wondering what Lucia would say.
"Thank you all for being here for my engagement with Wade. While it may seem abrupt to some, for me, it's been a long time coming. I've harbored feelings for Wade for years, and I'm thrilled to be with him."
"Wade, regardless of your current sentiments towards me, I want you to know that I care for you. I'm committed to loving you for a lifetime, and I hope you can reciprocate. I believe we can find happiness together."
After Lucia finished speaking, some people in the audience applauded. After all, her words did sound quite sincere.
Unfortunately, Wade remained expressionless, with even a hint of mockery at the corners of his mouth.
Lucia didn't care. She shifted her gaze to Evelyn, who was hiding in the corner."Evelyn, the future of the family rests in your capable hands. I trust you'll excel in this role, as our father always believed you were more astute than me."
Evelyn internally scoffed. 'Why drag me into this? I don't buy a word of what you're saying.'
Finally, Lucia thanked Blake and Dora, and the speech ended.
Lucia's whole act made it seem like she was already getting married.
However, it was solely an engagement, and the wedding was still pending. Lucia seemed to be leaving no room for doubt.
