Chapter 347 But what Can She Do?
Mind it!
Marina definitely minded it to death, but what could she do?
If she didn't marry Evander, the Peterson family would face bankruptcy. Although she didn't care about the family fortune, it was her parents' lifelong efforts after all. She couldn't just stand by and do nothing, right?
She forced a laugh and then said, "I don't mind, I think it would be fine."
She had already made up her mind. She could simply pretend that she hadn't married and she didn't want to see this man anyway. Let him play however he wanted.
"Quite unexpected, indeed," Evander laughed lightly. He had thought Marina was quite aloof, but apparently, she couldn't bear to see the Peterson family go bankrupt.
Well, if the Peterson family went bankrupt, she wouldn't be the Peterson family Lady anymore, naturally, she wouldn't want that.
"Alright then. I'll come to propose another day. Don't worry, I'll follow the proper procedures and won't let you lose face," Evander said, getting up and casting a reluctant glance at Evelyn.
"Are you really not considering having multiple boyfriends?" he asked.
Evelyn's face turned black. This guy had just talked about proposing to Marina, and now he was talking about leaving his own boyfriend. He really was a jerk.
She ignored him and looked at Marina. "Reject him!"
"Eve..." Marina hesitated. She knew Evelyn didn't want to see her being wronged, but the situation of the Peterson family had left her with no choice.
"Reject him. I'll find a way for you," Evelyn spoke up again, her gaze firm and unyielding.
Watching her, Marina felt a strange sense of gratitude, but she still didn't agree. "Eve, I know you mean well, but... I've already made up my mind."
"Eve, I'm already grown up. I can make my own decisions," she said.
Seeing her persistence, Evelyn was a little angry.
But this was Marina's private matter after all. Evelyn could help, but if the other party refused, she couldn't do anything either.
Evander laughed lightly twice and left the restaurant.
Once he was far enough away, Marina smiled at Evelyn and said, "He's gone. Let's eat."
If Evander were still here, she wouldn't be able to eat this meal.
"Marina, you have to think it through. This is a lifelong decision. Are you sure you can accept marrying such a jerk?" Evelyn couldn't bear it.
She knew what Marina was worried about, so she continued, "The problems that the Peterson family has encountered..."
"I can help. If I can't, you can always ask Dermot; he will definitely be able to assist you," she said. Though her relationship with Marina wasn't extremely close, it was still decent, and she didn't want to see Marina ruin her own lifelong happiness.
"Eve, I know you mean well, but I can handle it." While the issue of the Peterson family's bankruptcy was significant, if Dermot really wanted to help, there wouldn't be a problem.
But Marina knew that Evelyn and Dermot were already divorced, and if she were to ask him for help on her behalf, Marina would feel too guilty. She knew how strong-willed Evelyn was.
She continued to insist that Evelyn had the intention to help but didn't have the opportunity.
Sighing helplessly, Marina reluctantly said, "Well, it's up to you. If you ever want to refuse, just let me know. Sometimes, you don't have to force yourself."
If it were any other matter, she would let it go, but when it came to lifelong happiness, she felt it was better to be rational.
Marina nodded, "Alright, if I need your help, I will definitely ask, Eve."
Evelyn knew Marina was just giving her a perfunctory answer; she wouldn't really ask.
Never mind, there's no point in saying more. Let Marina decide for herself.
