Chapter 1313: I Have Nothing to Do with Her

The car screeched to a halt in front of the new crib, all decked out in golden ribbons, looking like a party waiting to happen.

Evelyn hopped out and took a good look at the place, starting to think maybe Dermot wasn't full of it after all.

Still, she was pretty ticked off.

Dermot led her inside, and it was like déjà vu—everything looked just like their old place, making her feel right at home.

“See, Evelyn? I wasn't lying,” Dermot said, looking all hurt.

Evelyn glanced around, then plopped down on the couch, lost in her thoughts.

She did trust Dermot, but something still felt off. “Why did Ava suddenly show up? Doesn't she know anyone else around here?”

“Probably not.” Dermot hadn't really thought it through. He figured giving her a place to crash wasn't a big deal and didn't take Ava seriously at all.

“Are you sure she's not playing you?” Evelyn was skeptical. Ava claimed she came to Dermot in Golombia to force Delmar, her crush, to marry her.

But what if that was a load of crap?

What if Ava was after Dermot?

Dermot seemed to read her mind and quickly said, “Evelyn, chill. You're the only one for me. No matter what Ava's up to, she's not gonna get anywhere.”

Evelyn sighed, knowing Dermot wasn't totally innocent, but he wasn't the worst either. Plus, she wasn't that mad anymore.

“Fine, just keep your distance from her. We're getting married, but that doesn't mean we can't split if something goes down.” She had finally decided to marry Dermot and didn't want any drama messing things up.

If Dermot screwed up, she might not give him another shot.

Dermot could see she was dead serious and nodded like his life depended on it. “Got it, I understand.”

“Good, as long as you get it.” Evelyn dropped the subject. “I need a shower; it's been a long day.”

“Okay, I'll take you.” Dermot was all over it, worried she was still pissed.

He led her to the master bedroom and watched her head into the bathroom before finally relaxing. Looked like she wasn't mad anymore.

It was just bad timing. He hadn't expected Evelyn to come back early. He wanted to surprise her, but she ended up surprising him, almost turning it into a disaster.

When Evelyn came out of the shower, Dermot was gone. She flopped onto the bed to chill.

An hour later, Dermot knocked on the door. “Evelyn, you rested? Dinner's ready.”

“Okay.” Evelyn replied, still half-asleep. She hadn't really dozed off, just zoned out for a bit.

She headed downstairs to find the table set with Dermot's cooking. Apart from the golden ribbons, it felt just like their old place.

“What's the plan with Ava?” Evelyn asked while eating.

Dermot paused, looking confused. “What do you mean? I've got nothing to do with her.”

“Didn't she come to you for help? Are you gonna help her?” She couldn't figure out Ava's game. Ava came to Dermot to force Delmar to marry her. What was that about? Making Delmar jealous?

Evelyn couldn't wrap her head around it, so she decided to just let it go.
