Chapter 1356 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (31)
Phoebe had no clue what the assistant was thinking. If she did, she might turn beet red. After that kiss the other day, things between her and Aidan had gotten kinda murky.
Neither of them had spilled their guts about their feelings, but Phoebe always felt like Aidan wasn't totally uninterested. Things were definitely different from before. But she wasn't sure, so she didn't rush to lay it all out there. She decided to hang back a bit, just like Evelyn had suggested, to be good to him and let him get used to having her around.
Phoebe gave herself a little pep talk. As the elevator doors opened, her nerves kicked in again. As soon as she was in front of Aidan, she couldn't keep her cool.
"Ms. Irvine, Mr. Brooks is in the office. You can just go in." The assistant led Phoebe to the door, clearly not planning to follow her inside.
Phoebe nodded and flashed him a smile. "Okay, thanks."
The assistant was momentarily stunned by her smile. Even after Phoebe walked into the office, he was still in a daze.
'She's so gorgeous. Why doesn't Mr. Brooks like her?' He was lost in thought, totally baffled.
Inside the office, as soon as Phoebe pushed the door open, she saw Aidan buried in work at his desk.
He didn't look up. Hearing the door open, he thought it was the assistant coming back. "Find the March financial report." He kept working, not even glancing up.
Phoebe started rummaging through the desk, but she had no idea where the March financial report was, so it sounded pretty chaotic.
Aidan looked up, ready to snap, but then he saw it was Phoebe going through the files. "Oh, it's you."
"Sorry, I was just trying to help." She looked at the pile of documents, totally clueless about where the one Aidan wanted was.
Aidan didn't get mad. He closed the file in front of him and asked, "It's fine. What do you want to talk about?"
"I..." Being stared at by Aidan made Phoebe a bit jittery. "Have you had dinner?"
Aidan frowned, clearly not expecting that. "Not yet."
For some reason, Phoebe started to smile. "I brought you dinner. You should eat before you keep working."
As she spoke, she opened the insulated lunch box she had brought and laid out the food inside. The dishes were fancy and all of Aidan's favorites, showing she had put some thought into it.
Aidan watched her set up the food and, for some reason, felt a sense of satisfaction from the scene.
"Eat up." After setting the table for Aidan, Phoebe stood by and smiled at him.
Aidan and Phoebe locked eyes for a moment before he finally said, "You came all the way here just to bring me dinner?"
"Yeah, it's not good for your health to skip dinner every day." Not just bad, it was downright terrible.
Aidan didn't think it was a big deal because when he was busy, he didn't feel hungry at all. When he wasn't busy, he would go straight home, and by the time he got home, it was already late. He would usually wash up and go straight to bed, and once asleep, he didn't feel hungry. But looking at the food in front of him, he was kinda touched.
"Thanks." After a moment, he finally said it. No matter what, at this moment, he felt happy inside.
Hearing him say thanks, Phoebe was both surprised and thrilled. Before coming, she had been worried that Aidan would brush off her kindness. But now it seemed like things weren't as bad as she had thought.
