Chapter 1167: Visiting the Calderon Family
Evelyn hopped on yet another plane outta Golombia, letting out a big ol' sigh. Man, she’d been running around like a headless chicken lately, barely catching a break.
She had no clue how her dad was holding up, but she crossed her fingers that he was okay.
This time, she told Dermot to stay put.
For one, Dermot was swamped with work. And for another, Evelyn figured she could handle this mess on her own. She wasn’t some helpless princess; she could tackle stuff solo.
Dermot was worried, sure, but he didn’t push it. He knew Evelyn well enough to realize that once she made up her mind, there was no changing it.
The flight from Golombia to Seabrook City was a solid four hours, even longer than the trip to Moris City.
No shocker there. Seabrook City was right by the coast. Folks in Golombia were still bundled up in coats, but in Seabrook, it was already warm enough for sundresses.
So, when Evelyn, all bundled up in her coat, stepped off the plane, she got hit with a wave of heat, and sweat started trickling down her back.
She darted to the restroom, swapped her clothes, and felt way better.
As she strolled out of the airport, there was Howard, waiting for her at the entrance.
Howard was an old-timer with the Kyte family. After Blake handed the Kyte Group over to Evelyn, Howard had been helping Blake track people down. To him, Blake was more than just a boss.
"Howard!" Evelyn waved when she spotted him.
Howard, ever the gentleman, opened the car door for her. "Ms. Kyte, hop in."
"Thanks." Evelyn didn’t waste any time and slid into the car, leaving the airport behind.
In the car, Howard still looked like he had a storm cloud over his head. "Ms. Kyte, we still haven’t heard a peep about Mr. Kyte. You think something bad happened to him?"
"Howard, do you know where the Calderon family hangs out?" Evelyn dodged his question and threw another one at him.
Howard blinked, then nodded. "Yeah, I went there once with Mr. Kyte. We just scoped it out from the outside, though."
"Cool, let’s head to the Calderon family’s place," Evelyn ordered.
Howard looked like he’d seen a ghost. "Wait, what? You serious?"
"Since we can’t find my dad, we’re gonna march right up to the Calderon family and make them cough him up. I doubt they’d dare mess with me." Evelyn was brimming with confidence. She had Calderon blood in her veins. Worst case, she’d have to call them Grandma and Grandpa.
But, no way was she doing that.
Howard thought Evelyn’s move was gutsy, but on second thought, it made sense. Going straight to the Calderon family was quicker than running around in circles.
The car did a U-turn and headed for the Calderon family’s digs.
The Calderon family was a big deal in Seabrook City, so finding their place was a piece of cake.
Eyeing the castle-like mansion in the distance, Evelyn quipped, "Looks like all the houses around here are trying to out-fancy each other."
"Yeah, Mr. Kyte and I noticed that right off the bat," Howard replied. "It’s like they’re using their houses to show off their cash—a bit much, if you ask me."
The car rolled to a stop, and Evelyn hopped out. Howard stood by her side, still looking jittery. "Ms. Kyte, you sure about this? They won’t do anything crazy, right?"
"Howard, we live in a civilized world. They wouldn’t dare pull anything crazy." At least not in broad daylight.
Behind closed doors, though, who knew? Maybe once she left the mansion, the Calderon family would try something.
But whatever. She had her own crew, and it wasn’t clear who’d come out on top.
