Chapter 1273: From Now On, We're All Family
At night, Evelyn and Dermot were sprawled out on this massive bed, both feeling kinda weird.
It wasn’t like they were shy or anything; it was just that Henry’s setup had them feeling a mix of amused and awkward.
They’d already done way more intimate stuff, so Henry’s gesture was totally over the top. Now, it just made things feel off.
“Evelyn, nighty-night,” Dermot said, wrapping his arms around her from behind.
“Night,” Evelyn mumbled, shoving aside her jumbled thoughts, shutting her eyes, and drifting off.
Dermot felt Evelyn conk out in his arms and felt a bit stuck. Now that she was out cold, he couldn’t catch any Z’s himself.
The next morning, when Evelyn woke up, Dermot was already up.
“Didn’t sleep well?” Evelyn asked, a bit taken aback. She looked at Dermot, who seemed kinda beat, and found it odd.
Didn’t they hit the sack early last night? Why did he look so wiped?
Dermot shot her a look with a hint of annoyance. “I’m not like you; I can’t just knock out instantly.”
“Why couldn’t you sleep?” Evelyn asked, thinking she’d slept like a baby.
Dermot didn’t know how to explain. Seeing Evelyn’s curious face, he just said, “Holding you all night, isn’t it obvious why I couldn’t sleep?”
Evelyn went quiet.
She got out of bed, not wanting to keep the convo going. “If you didn’t sleep well, catch some more Z’s. I’m heading out.”
Evelyn didn’t want Dermot blaming her for his crappy sleep. She wasn’t about to take that heat.
“Nah, I’m good,” Dermot said, getting up too.
After freshening up, they both headed downstairs, where Henry was already chilling in the dining room.
Dermot’s tired mug made it clear he hadn’t slept well, and Henry couldn’t help but chuckle. “Dermot, you gotta take care of yourself and not go overboard.”
Evelyn and Dermot stayed quiet.
Neither of them responded to Henry’s comment, thinking he was reading too much into it. At Doyal Mansion, they weren’t in the mood for any action.
They ate breakfast in silence. Afterward, Dermot drove Henry and Evelyn to Tara Village.
Bruce tagged along to help out with Henry.
With a bunch of people in the car, the vibe was lively. They chatted and laughed, and time flew by. By the time they rolled into Tara Village, it was just noon.
Evelyn had already hit up Jacob the day before, so when they arrived, Jacob was all smiles.
“Evelyn,” Jacob said, walking up to her, clearly stoked.
Evelyn greeted him and then introduced Dermot and Henry. Faced with two big shots, Jacob felt a bit uneasy and quickly invited them inside.
“It’s just the sticks, Dermot and Henry, hope you don’t mind,” Jacob said, feeling a bit embarrassed.
After all, Jacob was family to Evelyn and didn’t want to make her look bad, so he was super careful.
Dermot picked up on this and said, “Uncle Jacob, Evelyn’s already my fiancée. Just call me Dermot. No need to be so formal; we’re all family now.”
Even though Emily had once tried to hit on him, that was ancient history. Plus, Jacob seemed cool, so Dermot was friendly.
Jacob didn’t expect Dermot to be so chill and quickly smiled. “Yeah, we’re all family now.”
