Chapter 1251 Be More Careful in the Future
In the next few days, Evelyn kept clocking in at work like usual, but she'd swing by Alex's room every morning before her shift kicked off.
Even though Alex wasn't her patient, he was dating her bestie, Ruby. If she didn't keep tabs on him and something went south, Ruby would totally lose it on her.
Luckily, Alex bounced back pretty quick and got the green light to leave the hospital in about a week.
When he was finally out, Evelyn spotted Ruby and Alex together. It was obvious their bond had gotten way tighter during his hospital stay.
"Evelyn, you can head back to work. I'll take him home," Ruby told her.
Evelyn nodded and shot a look at Alex. "You gotta be more careful, dude. Even if you don't care about yourself, think about how it affects everyone else."
"Yeah, I get it," Alex replied, not even trying to argue. He knew she was right.
After watching them leave, Evelyn turned back to the hospital grind.
Neurosurgery was a madhouse. Evelyn had been at Golombia Hospital for a while, and her killer skills had drawn in a ton of patients.
She'd unexpectedly become a hotshot doc at Golombia, with people lining up to see her.
Evelyn didn't really sweat it. Patients came, she saw them. If there were a lot, she'd stay late; if not, she'd bounce early. No biggie.
But Dermot was feeling the heat.
At 8 PM, Dermot saw a few patients still hanging around Evelyn's clinic and got worried. Lately, she'd been clocking out later and later. If this kept up, she'd burn out.
So, after she wrapped up with the last patient, he said, "Starting tomorrow, no more extra patients."
Each doc had a set number of patients per day, but Evelyn always felt bad for them and took on extras, making her work late.
The flood of patients also meant more surgeries. They hadn't had a proper date in forever.
"Most of my patients are from out of town," Evelyn explained. "If I don't see them today, they'll have to come back tomorrow, which just drags things out and costs them more."
Dermot got it but stood his ground. "If you keep this up, you'll wear yourself out. Then who’s gonna treat them?"
"But..."
"Trust me, I'll get the hospital to bring in more docs," Dermot said.
He was firm, and after thinking it over, Evelyn didn't push back. "Alright, more docs would mean they can see someone else if they can't get to me."
If there were serious issues, they could still come to her. No biggie.
Dermot sighed in relief. "Let's roll, Dr. Kyte. If we don't leave now, we'll miss dinner."
"Sorry for making you wait so long," Evelyn said, feeling a bit guilty.
Dermot shrugged. "What can I do? My girlfriend's a doctor, so I just gotta deal."
Evelyn smiled but didn't say anything.
