Chapter 1252: Could It Be a Proposal
After cleaning up, Evelyn tagged along with Dermot out of the hospital and they headed out for some grub.
"So, what's on the menu?" Evelyn was in high spirits. After a hectic day of seeing a ton of patients, she felt pretty accomplished, which made her forget how tired she was.
Dermot shot her a look. "What do you feel like eating?"
"I'm cool with anything," Evelyn shrugged.
"Alright, my pick then."
"Sure thing." Evelyn didn't mind and didn't catch on that Dermot was acting a bit off today.
If she had any clue about what was coming, she probably wouldn't be so chill right now.
They rolled up to their usual spot, a restaurant they hit up often 'cause the food and vibe were always on point.
Evelyn didn't think twice and followed Dermot inside, only to notice it was eerily quiet. "Why's it so dead in here?"
The place was usually buzzing.
"Check the time. Who else would be eating at this hour besides us?" Dermot said, dodging her gaze so she wouldn't get suspicious.
Evelyn figured that made sense. Even though something felt a bit off, she couldn't put her finger on it and decided to let it slide.
Dermot led her to a window seat. The restaurant was on the thirtieth floor, giving them a killer night view.
With such a stunning view, Evelyn felt even better. "Wow, it's gorgeous."
"Is it? I think you're even more gorgeous," Dermot said smoothly.
Evelyn got goosebumps. "Mr. Doyle, that's kinda cheesy."
"I'm just being honest. Is that a crime?" Dermot raised an eyebrow, genuinely not thinking his words were cheesy. Just keeping it real.
Maybe neither of them was used to this kind of talk, so it felt a bit awkward.
Dermot figured he should say stuff like this more often so Evelyn would get used to it and not find it so cheesy.
Evelyn didn't argue, just feeling that Dermot was acting a bit different tonight.
Right then, the sound of a piano filled the restaurant, making Evelyn frown. "What's this..."
She'd been to this place plenty of times but never knew they had live piano music.
Before she could ask Dermot what was up, the lights in the restaurant suddenly went out.
Then, some folks walked in holding bouquets of roses with little lights on them, making it easy for Evelyn to see who they were.
"Ruby?"
Yep, it was Ruby, but she wasn't flying solo.
Ruby was with Alex, Sarah, Keith, and even Aidan and Niall, along with Niall's girlfriend Lily. They were all there.
In that moment, Evelyn seemed to piece it all together.
She looked at Dermot in disbelief. Was he about to pop the question?
This was way too sudden.
"Evelyn, I wish you all the happiness," Ruby said, handing her the roses.
Evelyn didn't turn them down. She'd been waiting for this day, but she hadn't expected Dermot to keep it such a tight secret. It was a total shock.
As one bouquet of roses after another was handed to Evelyn, Dermot had already dropped to one knee in front of her. "Evelyn, will you marry me?"
He opened the jewelry box, revealing a blinding diamond ring.
