Chapter 1059: Don't Overthink It
Dermot didn't argue with her because he already knew his answer.
Maybe it was their different upbringings, but he and Evelyn saw things differently.
Evelyn lived freely and happily, with or without him.
But Dermot was different.
Without Evelyn, he'd still be lost.
So, he chose to live for her.
"Go to sleep; it's late," Evelyn said, checking the time. If they didn't sleep soon, it would be dawn.
Dermot nodded, even though he wasn't tired. He knew Evelyn had been through a lot and didn't want to keep her up.
The room went silent, only their breathing filled the space.
That night, Evelyn didn't go back to Joshua's villa, and Joshua stayed up all night.
At dawn, Evelyn called Joshua to say she wouldn't be back for a while. She didn't explain, but she knew Joshua understood.
He just reminded her to take care of herself.
After hanging up, Evelyn felt a bit guilty.
Joshua needed her too. She had moved in to care for him, but now she had to focus on Dermot, which made her feel bad.
Dermot noticed her distraction. "About what Leon said yesterday, you..."
"I know what you're getting at, but I trust Joshua. He wouldn't joke about his health," Evelyn cut him off.
Dermot sighed and dropped it.
Evelyn spent the whole day at the hospital with Dermot. Meanwhile, Joshua was down all day.
Brandon, fed up, suggested, "Mr. Garcia, what if I get some guys to handle Dermot?"
He'd thought about it for a while, but Joshua always stopped him.
"No," Joshua said firmly. "Dermot's not just anyone now. If we fail, it'll only make things worse."
"But we can't just sit here," Brandon said, frustrated.
He thought Evelyn moving in with Joshua would distance her from Dermot. Instead, Dermot moved next door, and they got closer.
Joshua rubbed his forehead, feeling a headache. "Call Evelyn and tell her I'm suddenly not feeling well, that I have a headache."
Brandon was surprised but understood, feeling sad. When did Joshua start using such tactics?
There were plenty of women who wanted to be with him, so why Evelyn?
"I got it." Brandon didn't dare voice his thoughts and just followed orders.
When Evelyn got Brandon's call at the hospital, she had just finished lunch with Dermot. Hearing Joshua was unwell, she got up to leave.
But Dermot didn't want her to go so easily. "When I'm okay, he's fine. But the moment I'm hospitalized, he suddenly feels unwell?"
"Dermot, I don't want to hear this again." Evelyn could read between the lines.
Dermot frowned, clearly annoyed. "It's just too convenient."
"Joshua's condition is unpredictable; he could feel unwell anytime," Evelyn replied, getting ready to leave.
At the door, she turned back. "Take care of yourself and don't overthink things."
