Chapter 1074: The Baby Can't Possibly Be Mine
Aidan knew Evelyn well since they grew up together. He didn't feel any obligation to take responsibility just because he and Phoebe had sex.
He looked at Evelyn, waiting for her to speak.
Evelyn felt stuck. She didn't expect Aidan to take responsibility, especially since Phoebe had schemed against him.
She sighed and decided to spill the beans. "I saw Phoebe at the hospital today."
Aidan frowned, not getting why Evelyn was telling him this. He didn't care about Phoebe at all.
"She came to see me for a headache. I suggested a brain CT scan, but..." Evelyn paused and met Aidan's gaze.
Aidan still looked puzzled, but inside, his frustration with Phoebe was growing. He had told Phoebe to keep their past a secret, but she had told Evelyn anyway.
In Aidan's mind, Phoebe's headache was just an excuse. She probably wanted to tell Evelyn about their past, which is why Evelyn was here tonight.
But soon, Aidan realized he was wrong.
"But Phoebe refused. Aidan, do you know why?" Evelyn asked.
Aidan shook his head. "I don't care about her problems."
"Because she's pregnant. A brain CT scan might affect the baby, and she didn't want to risk it." Evelyn thought Phoebe might be a good mother despite her character.
The news of Phoebe's pregnancy shocked Aidan for a moment, but he quickly regained his composure. "Oh? Really?"
Evelyn asked, "Aidan, are you serious? That's it?" She didn't know what to say. Pregnancy was a big deal.
"What does her being pregnant have to do with me? I don't care." Surely Evelyn didn't think he liked Phoebe? He absolutely hated her.
Evelyn sighed. It seemed Aidan hadn't even considered that the baby might be his.
Reluctantly, she told him directly, "Given the timing, that baby is probably yours."
Aidan's face changed dramatically. He immediately denied it, "No way! That's impossible!"
They only slept together once; how could it be his?
"I know it's hard to accept, Aidan. I couldn't believe it at first either, but after investigating, the baby is very likely yours," Evelyn said.
Before coming here, she had looked into everyone Phoebe had been in contact with since returning. Besides Aidan, Phoebe hadn't been with any other men.
Considering the timeline, she was almost certain the baby was Aidan's.
But even after Evelyn pointed this out, Aidan still refused to believe it. "No way! This is probably just another one of her schemes."
After that night, Phoebe might have slept with another man to get pregnant and then blamed it on him. So the timing would be close enough.
"Aidan, we can do a paternity test after the baby is born. What you need to think about now is, if the baby is yours, what are you going to do?" Evelyn reminded him.
