Chapter 872 The Unavoidable Reason
Right now, Evelyn's emotions were complex. She was relieved they hadn't found Dermot yet, but she was also worried sick about his situation.
She didn't know exactly what had happened, but from what the bodyguards were saying, Dermot was as good as dead. Evelyn had a bad feeling about it.
She had no time to dwell on it; she started searching for Dermot, but things weren't looking good.
She had to dodge the bodyguards while searching, which slowed her progress down a lot.
Luckily, the bodyguards hadn't found Dermot either, so there was still hope he was alive.
Just as she was about to keep searching, her phone rang, and she froze.
In the quiet of the cliffside, even a whisper could get her noticed, let alone a loud ringtone. She was almost instantly discovered.
"Someone's over there!"
"Let's check it out!"
A bunch of bodyguards started heading her way. Evelyn answered the phone while running, listening to Jennifer explain the whole situation, feeling even more stressed.
When she heard that Dermot had been shot before he fell off the cliff, she was freaking out.
However, her situation didn't allow her to think too much about it. She had to get rid of the bodyguards chasing her, or she wouldn't survive, let alone save Dermot.
"Follow me!" A figure appeared out of nowhere and pulled her in another direction before she could react.
"Craig? What are you doing here?" Evelyn was confused. The train of thoughts ran swiftly, 'Even if the news about Dermot had spread, he wouldn't have gotten here this fast, right?'
Craig didn't answer. If Evelyn weren't so important to Dermot, he wouldn't have intervened with her situation at all.
Soon, something even crazier happened.
There was a helicopter parked in the mountains.
Craig shoved her inside, and she saw a few people, including two doctors, who were busy giving Dermot some basic treatment.
The helicopter took off, and the bodyguards below chased after it, but it was pointless.
They had seen the helicopter earlier and thought it belonged to the Doyle family, so they didn't check it out. Little did they know it belonged to someone else, or they wouldn't have just watched Dermot and his crew leave.
On the helicopter, Evelyn saw Dermot, who was in a coma and started to piece things together. She looked at Craig and asked, "Did you know Dermot would get into trouble?"
"It wasn't me who knew; he knew himself." Before Dermot went to the horse ranch, he had already set everything up.
"Since he knew, why did he still go? Didn't he know how dangerous it was?" Evelyn was angry. She thought, 'Even though his plan seemed perfect and he is still alive, wasn't he afraid of the what-ifs?'
Craig glanced at her and said, "He must have had his reasons."
Evelyn didn't know what to say to that.
Craig was also helpless. When Dermot first told him the plan, he was against it.
However, as Dermot's friend, Craig knew him well. Once he decided, no one could change his mind. So, instead of stopping him, he even agreed.
All Craig could do was ensure his safety, Which was why he had a helicopter ready at the horse ranch, just in case something happened. This way, they could leave quickly.
However, he didn't expect Dermot to get so seriously injured.
It seemed, as Evelyn said, that no matter how perfect the plan, there was always a chance of something going wrong.
