Chapter 1005: Wishful Thinking

After Dermot walked away, Aidan finally asked, "You know what you're getting into if you decide to take care of Joshua forever, right?"

"I know," Evelyn said, looking away from Dermot's retreating figure.

"Maybe he and I just aren't meant to be."

Evelyn had been ready to say yes to Dermot. She was just waiting for him to ask. But she never saw this coming.

Aidan sighed. He used to hope Evelyn and Dermot wouldn't end up together, but now that they really couldn't, he felt a bit sad.

Probably because this wasn't Evelyn's choice.

"You should reconsider. There are other ways to help Joshua. This is just too much," Aidan said, thinking she was sacrificing too much.

Evelyn nodded, "I know, Aidan. You should go back. The company must be busy. Don't worry about me; I'll handle it."

Aidan wanted to say that he couldn't focus on work right now, but seeing Evelyn's troubled face, he knew she was struggling too.

"Alright, I'll go. Take care," Aidan said, deciding to contact a doctor first. Maybe there was still hope.

After Aidan left, Evelyn stood at the door for a while. Once she calmed down, she went back into the hospital room.

Inside, Joshua was leaning against the headboard, looking at his phone. When he heard the door, he put it away. "Evelyn."

"What's wrong? Are you uncomfortable?" Evelyn asked, rushing over.

Joshua shook his head and smiled bitterly. "I was joking earlier. You don't need to take it seriously."

"Joshua, don't overthink it. I know what to do. Just rest and focus on getting better," Evelyn said, smiling. Joke or not, she had made her decision.

Joshua looked at her and fell silent.

He wasn't surprised by Evelyn's reaction; it was what he expected.

Evelyn's strong sense of responsibility played right into his hands. If she were heartless, his plan would've failed today.

At the Doyle Manor, Randy looked at the drunk Dermot and frowned. "Why did you come back? I thought you didn't want anything to do with the Doyle family."

"How could that be? I'm preparing to take over the Doyle family," Dermot said, sitting down and glancing at Randy dismissively.

He was unhappy and wanted others to be unhappy too.

"Take over the Doyle family? You don't have a chance now," Randy sneered. "I've already handed it over to James. Even if you're capable, you don't have any shares. As long as I don't agree, the Doyle family will never be yours."

"Is that so? I think you'll hand it over to me personally," Dermot said with a confident smile.

Randy frowned, feeling uneasy. "Dream on!"

"Come on, Randy, you know James can't handle the Doyle family's mess. He might even make things worse. You should know this better than I do," Dermot said, stating the facts.
