Chapter 1268: Don't Drag Him Down
Evelyn watched Henry lay into Dermot, and she had to bite back a laugh. "Henry, chill. If he doesn't treat me right, he's outta chances."
This was Dermot's final shot.
"Evelyn," Dermot said with a pained grin. How could she think he wouldn't treasure her?
Dermot had busted his butt to win Evelyn over, and now they were about to tie the knot. No way he wouldn't cherish her. He wished he could keep Evelyn glued to his side every day.
"Alright, go check the kitchen. I need a word with Evelyn," Henry said, shooing Dermot away with a wave.
Dermot had no choice but to obey, though he shot Henry a worried look. "Grandpa, don't say anything weird to Evelyn."
He really didn't want Henry to keep bringing up his past screw-ups. What if Evelyn suddenly changed her mind?
"Yeah, yeah, go on," Henry said. Bringing up those old mistakes was just to make him appreciate Evelyn more.
With Dermot in the kitchen, it was just Evelyn and Henry left in the living room.
"Evelyn, I’m really stoked to see you and Dermot finally getting hitched," Henry said, flashing a genuine smile at Evelyn.
Evelyn smiled back, knowing Henry truly wanted her and Dermot to patch things up.
"Henry, you used to push for me and Dermot because of my background, thinking it would boost the Doyle family. But later on, after Dermot took over, he was just as capable as me," Evelyn joked, genuinely curious.
Initially, Henry had his own agenda, but eventually, those plans seemed to fade away.
Hearing this, Henry felt a twinge of guilt. He'd been too wrapped up in the Doyle family's future. So, when he found out Evelyn was from the Kyte family in Golombia, he set up Dermot's marriage to her. Even after their split, he still hoped they'd get back together.
He chuckled, "I might be old, but I was young once. I can tell Dermot really likes you, and you have feelings for him too. So, I gotta support you."
"You're really good to Dermot," Evelyn said sincerely. She could see that as long as Dermot liked someone, Henry wouldn't stand in the way.
But Dermot hadn't liked anyone else over the years.
Henry sighed, glancing toward the kitchen. "I raised Dermot since he was a kid, grooming him to be the heir. You could say he didn't have a happy childhood. Now that he's grown and super capable, I just want him to be happy, at least be with someone he loves."
Talking about Dermot's past, Evelyn's expression darkened. "It's all in the past. Things will definitely get better in the future."
"Yeah," Henry agreed, though he wondered how much longer he could stick around.
"Has Benjamin come to see you?" Henry suddenly asked.
Evelyn thought for a moment, then shook her head. "Last time was during New Year's when Luke brought him over. Haven't seen him since."
Dermot didn't care about Benjamin, and naturally, Evelyn didn't either. So she hadn't bothered to check on him.
But she guessed Benjamin was probably with Luke now.
Henry sighed and said, "If you see him again, tell him to come back to Moris City. He shouldn't drag Luke down."
Even though he couldn't accept that Luke was part of the Doyle family, it just couldn't be changed.
