Chapter 925: Aren't You Afraid of Dying Young
After seeing Joshua off, Evelyn finally noticed Dermot's message. Just then, Dermot called.
"Have you eaten?" Dermot asked, sounding tired.
"Yeah. What about you? Don't tell me you're too busy to eat," Evelyn replied.
Dermot stayed silent. He hadn't eaten; sometimes he got so busy he forgot.
Evelyn sighed. "Dermot, you really don't take care of yourself. Aren't you worried about burning out?"
Her words were harsh, but working in a hospital made her see the consequences of neglecting health.
"I never used to be, but now I am," Dermot said. Before meeting Evelyn, he didn't fear death. But now, the thought of never seeing her again made him sad.
Evelyn missed the deeper meaning. "If you're scared, adjust your schedule and stop overworking."
"Yeah, but there's no one at home to keep an eye on me," Dermot said.
Evelyn went quiet.
"I'd love to go home for dinner, but there's no one to cook. Being alone, I might as well work," Dermot added, sounding pitiful.
Evelyn felt uneasy. "Everyone's like that. Why wreck your body?"
Dermot sighed.
Evelyn softened. "When are you coming back?"
"I still have some work."
"Dermot, did anything I said sink in?" Evelyn was furious. She thought he listened, but it felt like her words were ignored.
Sensing her anger, Dermot quickly said, "I'm coming back now."
He didn't want to upset her. Though his work wasn't done, knowing Evelyn cared made it seem less important.
"Okay, come back for dinner," Evelyn said.
"Alright," Dermot agreed, feeling warm inside.
After hanging up, Dermot quickly finished his work, signed off, and left the office.
The Doyle Group building still had many lights on.
When Dermot's office light went out, many were surprised. Known as a workaholic, they didn't expect him to leave early, even at 10 PM.
Otis got the news and, curious, had someone follow Dermot, hoping to catch him doing something wrong.
But Otis was disappointed. Dermot went to Evelyn's place instead of going straight home. The person following him downstairs didn't know this.
