Chapter 745 I Will Make You Pay
The bullet didn't hit Evelyn because at the moment David fired, she steeled herself and jumped off the cliff behind her.
There was a river below and Evelyn had noticed it earlier.
Jumping into the river was the worst option for Evelyn. So she spent time negotiating with David, trying to bribe him with money, yet it didn't work.
So now, Evelyn had no choice but to jump.
David strode to the edge of the cliff, but he could no longer see Evelyn. His previously triumphant face was now clouded with anger.
"Boss, what now?" David's subordinate asked.
David's face darkened as he ordered, "Go down and find her. Alive or dead, I want to see her."
Since David started working as a mercenary, he had never failed a job. So, whether Evelyn was dead or alive, he had to find her.
A dozen mercenaries quickly spread out, walking down the slope to search for any trace of Evelyn.
On the other side, Blake was already on his way with his team.
He had received a call from Aidan, learning that Evelyn had lost contact. He immediately sent people to search, but there was no sign of her anywhere, which made him certain that something had happened to Evelyn.
Fortunately, Golombia had a lot of surveillance cameras. Through the footage, they saw Evelyn being surrounded by a group of people and then escaping into the mountains.
Of course, they also saw Evelyn getting shot in the shoulder, which made everyone uneasy.
They arrived at the scene of Evelyn's incident, where Aidan and another man were also present.
Blake didn't bother asking who the other man was; he just instructed his team to search the mountains. He needed to find her as soon as possible.
Aidan approached the car where Evelyn had been to find some clues.
"You're not going into the mountains to search?" Seeing him staring at the car, Joshua asked doubtfully.
Aidan withdrew his gaze and nodded, "Of course I am."
With that, Aidan got up and started walking towards the mountains, but before he could take a step, there was a phone ringing.
He frowned and looked at Evelyn's overturned car.
The ringtone was coming from inside, likely Evelyn's phone. No wonder no one had been able to reach her; it had been left in the car.
Without much hesitation, Aidan walked over and retrieved the phone from the car.
Seeing that the caller was Dermot, his eyes turned cold instantly.
After a moment's hesitation, Aidan answered the call.
"Why are you only answering now?" Dermot's somewhat urgent voice came through, clearly worried because Evelyn hadn't answered.
Before Aidan could speak, Dermot seemed to calm down, "What did you call me about earlier?"
"Evelyn called you before? When was this?" Aidan frowned and he sensed something was off.
"Who are you?" Dermot asked, recognizing Aidan's voice but unable to place it.
"What did she say when she called you?" Aidan asked.
Dermot also sensed that something was wrong; otherwise, Evelyn's phone wouldn't be in someone else's hands, "I was busy at the time and missed the call."
"Dermot!" Aidan roared in anger.
To him, the call Evelyn made to Dermot was likely a cry for help. If Dermot had answered, Evelyn might have been rescued already, and they wouldn't be searching now.
"What happened to her?" Dermot asked straightgly. He didn't intended to argue with Aidan.
Unfortunately, Aidan didn't answer his question but said, "If anything happens to Evelyn, I will make you pay."
With that, Aidan hung up the phone and promptly blocked Dermot.
