Chapter 859 You Have Nothing to be Sorry For
As Evelyn finished talking, the atmosphere went dead silent, making her a bit uneasy.
This wasn't the first time she'd said something like this. Ever since Joshua started working at Kyte Group, she'd been saying it. The gist was simple: she didn't like him.
Evelyn apologized, "Joshua, I'm sorry, I..."
"Why are you apologizing? You have nothing to be sorry for. It's me who oversimplified everything," Joshua said with a self-deprecating smile.
He sighed and continued, "When Aidan found me and asked me to come back, I agreed without much thought. We both assumed that since you confessed to me back then, you must have liked me. So, I thought I could win you back if I returned."
"Joshua."
"But we both forgot that you have your own thoughts. No one should control you, nor will you be," Joshua interrupted her, speaking on his own.
Evelyn pursed her lips, feeling conflicted.
Just when Evelyn thought he was going to give up, Joshua suddenly changed his tone and said, "I know you don't like me anymore, but it's okay. This time, I'll be the one to confess to you."
He continued, "Evelyn, I've never forgotten you all these years. When Aidan told me about the troubles you had with Dermot, you had no idea how much it hurt me. So I didn't hesitate to come back because I want to make you happy."
Joshua asked, "Before you have a boyfriend, just give me a chance, okay?"
His tone was gentle as if he wouldn't push if Evelyn really said no. But facing his humble plea, Evelyn couldn't bring herself to say no.
After a moment of eye contact, Evelyn steeled herself and said, "Joshua, there's really no need for this, I..."
"Do you have someone you like now?" Joshua asked directly.
Evelyn was at a loss for words and didn't answer.
He pressed on, "Since you don't, what difference does it make if there's one more person who likes you? You wouldn't forbid me from liking you, would you?"
In fact, this didn't require Evelyn's consent.
Joshua didn't care who Evelyn liked now. Even if she liked Dermot, as long as they weren't married, he wouldn't give up easily.
Evelyn sighed again. Just then, a servant came to inform them that breakfast was ready, so she took the opportunity to end the topic. "Let's have breakfast first, and I have something important to discuss with you later."
"Okay." Since Evelyn didn't continue to ask him to give up, Joshua felt a bit better.
They walked to the dining table, and Evelyn handed over the preliminary contract she had drafted with Otis last night. "This is a collaboration Otis initiated. I looked it over and thought it was pretty good. Take a look."
Joshua took it and glanced casually. "It looks alright."
"In that case, you'll be responsible for this collaboration. I won't handle the follow-up." As long as the collaboration benefited Kyte Group, Evelyn wouldn't refuse, even if it was brought by Otis.
Joshua nodded, thinking it was a good idea to avoid further contact between Evelyn and Otis. "Okay, I'll take care of it. But I'll need time to investigate the collaboration, so it might not be signed into a formal contract quickly."
Joshua was very clear that the collaboration was destined to fail because Gerald would soon die. When that happened, this contract would bring no benefits to Kyte Group but only a lot of trouble.
So, he could only drag out the time for now.
