Chapter 260 Don't Speak Ill of Me
"Niall."
Aidan's voice carried a certain indescribable seriousness. "I might have to leave for a while. Take care of Evelyn in the meantime, will you?"
Niall's body stiffened, and he turned to the man in front of him. "Leave? Where are you going?"
"There's been some trouble with the company's overseas business, so I need to go and check it out," he replied.
Niall rolled his eyes at him. "It's just a business trip, I thought you were planning to disappear."
"There's a lot to take care of there, so I might not be back for a while," Aidan continued.
Niall, who had relaxed a little, frowned again. He looked at Aidan and could see the seriousness in his eyes. He wasn't joking.
Niall got up from the bed and stood in front of Aidan with anger in his eyes. "Why? Are you running away?"
He wasn't stupid. Aidan suddenly saying he wanted to leave could only mean one thing.
He hadn't sorted things out with Evelyn last night!
"Maybe," Aidan didn't deny it. "Staying here, I'm afraid I won't be able to control my feelings for Evelyn."
"I only just realized that my feelings have hurt her, so I thought I'd leave for a while. Maybe when I come back, I'll have completely let go of Evelyn, and she won't care about this anymore."
He didn't want to leave, didn't want to be away from Evelyn for a long time.
But there was no other way. As long as he saw Evelyn, he couldn't control his feelings.
Niall wanted to persuade Aidan, wanted to say it wasn't necessary, that they hadn't reached that point yet.
But the words stopped at his lips, and he sighed. "You've already made up your mind, haven't you?"
"Mhm," Aidan nodded. "I'm just worried that she'll be treated unfairly after I leave."
"What are you saying? If it wasn't for you, Aidan, then as Niall, am I not capable of taking care of her?" Niall was annoyed by this, as if he was weak.
Although he was indeed a little weak, he would never admit it in this matter.
Aidan glanced at him and calmly said, "Look at how capable you are. If you were so capable, how could you be easily bribed by Dermot?"
"Who got bribed by him? Don't speak ill of others." Niall immediately retorted. He wouldn't accept that.
Aidan chuckled and didn't bother arguing with him.
However, Niall wasn't planning to end it there. He looked at him and said, "In fact, Evelyn may not even need us to support her anymore. She is capable of holding her own ground now, much better than us."
Aidan didn't refute. Evelyn was indeed much more capable now than when she was in Tara Village. Sometimes, even if he wanted to help, he couldn't find the opportunity to do so.
But still, he couldn't help but worry.
"Anyway, take care of her," Aidan patted his shoulder and turned to leave.
Niall, seeing this, became anxious. "You're not leaving now, are you?"
"I have to go to the company and take care of things," Aidan replied. After all, he was in charge of so many people and if he just disappeared, others might think he had run away with the money.
Niall breathed a sigh of relief. He was afraid that Aidan would just leave without giving him any time to adjust.
He followed behind Aidan, intending to go to the company with him. However, a phone call stopped him in his tracks.
He answered the call and as he listened to the report on the other end of the line, his expression grew increasingly solemn.
After a short while, the call ended and Niall immediately dialed Evelyn's number. "There is news regarding the matter you asked me to investigate earlier."
