Chapter 1197: Maybe She Got Scared
Evelyn and her crew took off with Bella, leaving Oscar staring at the fake Bella. "What's your name?" he asked.
"Bella," the imposter replied, nailing Bella's tone and mannerisms.
Oscar felt like he was wasting his breath. This chick was already deep in character. "Alright, just lie down and chill. If Nathaniel shows up, keep your mouth shut."
Playing dead seemed like the safest bet to avoid any slip-ups.
The fake Bella didn't argue and hit the bed.
Once she was down, Oscar bounced out of the room. By then, some of his guys who weren't on duty had caught wind of the situation and rushed over.
"Mr. Flores, what's the deal?" they asked.
"The Kyte family stormed in and butchered a bunch of my men. Damn it!" Oscar growled, putting on an Oscar-worthy performance.
"What? Let's go get 'em!" The guys were ready to charge out, but Oscar stopped them. "Forget it, they're long gone."
"Get my dad on the line," Oscar ordered.
No one argued. "What about Mrs. Flores..."
"Tell my dad not to sweat it. Mrs. Flores is still here," Oscar said.
One guy called Nathaniel, while the others started cleaning up the mess. They found most of the men were still alive, just passed out from blood loss.
The crew quickly got the survivors to the hospital.
Oscar soon got a call from a furious Nathaniel. "What the hell happened?"
"Just like you thought, Evelyn made her move," Oscar said.
"Where is she?" Nathaniel was more worried about Evelyn than the dead men.
Oscar smirked to himself but answered, "She's still here. Evelyn took her, but she came back on her own. Guess she can't resist the Flores family's bling. She's not as high and mighty as she acts."
His tone was dripping with sarcasm.
But Nathaniel smelled something fishy. "Taken and then came back on her own?"
"Yep."
"Where's Bella? I need to see her." Nathaniel wasn't buying it just from Oscar's words.
In his mind, if Bella had a shot to leave, she'd never come back.
But this situation was way off from what he expected.
Oscar knocked on Bella's door and switched to video call. "Looks like she's asleep."
On the bed, 'Bella' was under a blanket, kinda hard to see clearly, but still recognizable.
For some reason, Nathaniel felt a bit relieved. "Why is she asleep?"
"Probably freaked out; it's been nuts around here," Oscar said, already stepping out of the room. He moved fast, worried Nathaniel might catch on if he lingered.
Nathaniel's face was stone-cold, clearly pissed. "I'll send more men right away. Don't let her leave."
"Got it," Oscar said, then asked, "You coming back now?"
Nathaniel didn't answer, but his intentions were clear.
"No need. I got this. Evelyn took a hit too and won't be back soon." He didn't want Nathaniel returning yet. The sooner he came back, the quicker he'd figure out the truth.
Better to stall a few days and give Evelyn some time to get ready.
