Chapter 1264: Why the Sudden Concern for Her
After dinner, Dermot headed back to the study to keep grinding on his design.
Evelyn didn't bug him and just chilled with a book in the bedroom, both doing their own thing.
She'd barely flipped a few pages when her phone buzzed. It was Aidan. "Hey Aidan, what's up?"
"Uh, not much," Aidan started, sounding kinda iffy.
Evelyn could tell something was up. "Aidan, spill it. No need to dance around."
"Well, I was wondering if Phoebe's been to your hospital for a check-up lately?" Aidan finally blurted out after a deep breath.
Evelyn was taken aback. She sat up. "Why the sudden interest in Phoebe, Aidan?"
After giving her money, they had completely cut ties. Evelyn had thought Aidan didn't care about Phoebe, so she hadn't brought up anything related to Phoebe since.
Who would've thought Aidan would now be asking about her?
Aidan probably found his own behavior weird too. He stammered, "Just curious, that's all."
Evelyn wasn't buying it.
"Did you see Phoebe?" she guessed. If he hadn't seen her, he wouldn't be asking.
Aidan stayed silent, but Evelyn already knew the answer.
"I haven't seen her at the hospital recently. And even if she did come for a prenatal check-up, I might not run into her," Evelyn said.
The last time Phoebe came to her was because of a headache; otherwise, she wouldn't have known about the subsequent events.
Speaking of headaches, Evelyn felt a bit worried. "She came to me before, saying she had a headache. I wanted her to get checked, but she was worried it might affect the baby, so she didn't. I wonder how she's doing now."
"Headache?" Aidan's voice was laced with concern.
"Yeah, I don't know the details, but she's super worried about the baby and doesn't want to take any risks." She couldn't see Aidan's face and had no clue how he'd react.
Aidan didn't say much, exchanged a few pleasantries, and then hung up.
Evelyn stared at her phone, feeling a bit uneasy. Could something be wrong?
Just then, she heard footsteps at the bedroom door. Dermot walked in. "Who were you talking to?"
"Aidan," Evelyn replied, putting her phone down and trying to shake off her worries. "Done with your drawing?"
"Not quite. Designing needs some inspiration." He was almost done with the wedding dress, but the ring was still a blank.
He had given Evelyn tons of rings, all crafted by top designers. Compared to those pros, he felt like his own design might not cut it.
Evelyn knew what was bugging him and smiled. "No rush; let's get some rest. We have a flight to Moris City tomorrow. Maybe you'll get inspired there."
Moris City was where they met, got to know each other, and fell in love. Finding inspiration there was totally possible.
"You're right. Let's hit the sack." With that, Dermot walked straight toward Evelyn.
Evelyn quickly backed away. "What are you doing? Your room's next door."
"Evelyn, we're about to get married. Do we really need to sleep in separate rooms anymore?" Besides, even when they did, they often ended up in the same bed. To him, continuing to sleep apart seemed pointless.
