Chapter 1335 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (10)
"Phoebe!" Craig barked, "Weren't you all about getting into the Irvine family? And now, 'cause of Aidan, you don't give a damn anymore, huh?"
Before Aidan came into the picture, Phoebe's biggest dream was to be seen as a legit Irvine.
But now, thanks to Aidan, she couldn't care less. What was up with that?
"Craig, it's not about him; it's 'cause I finally got it," Phoebe said with a bitter smile. She really had figured it out.
Before Craig could jump in, she went on, "I used to be obsessed with getting the Irvine family's approval. I cared so much it made me miserable, just like you—always trying to prove myself. But in the end, what did it get me?"
Looking back, she realized she got nothing out of it.
Before her dad died, he never gave her the time of day. Even after he was gone, the rest of the Irvines wouldn't accept her.
The only reason she wasn't picked on in the Irvine family was 'cause Craig, the heir, had a decent relationship with her, even though they were half-siblings.
But after a near-death experience, she saw how pointless and fake it all was.
Who cared if the Irvine family recognized her? Who cared if she was one of them?
Would it make her happier? Nope.
So, she figured it out.
"Craig, I don't care about that stuff anymore, and I hope you can let it go too." She knew Craig had it rough over the years; his pressure was even worse.
Despite his tough act, Phoebe knew he wasn't happy.
Maybe it had something to do with Ruby marrying someone else, but it was also about the pressure he was under.
"I think Aidan's brainwashed you!" Craig snapped before hanging up, not wanting to keep talking.
His mind was already a mess.
Phoebe put her phone away and didn't dwell on it.
Having decided to ditch her Irvine status, she didn't care anymore. The Irvine family and Craig didn't matter to her now.
She just wanted to live her own life.
Word got out that Aidan was throwing a baby shower for Theodore, and Evelyn was thrilled. She felt everything was falling into place, and Aidan seemed to be warming up to Phoebe and Theodore.
At this rate, Evelyn expected some good news soon.
The baby shower was set for the weekend.
On the day of the shower, Aidan was busy with the preparations. Even though he said he'd leave it to others, he couldn't help but want everything to be perfect.
"Mr. Brooks, should we invite the Irvine family?" The assistant, knowing Phoebe's background and the Irvine family's current clout, didn't want to decide on his own, so he asked Aidan with a smile.
Aidan furrowed his brow, thought for a moment, and then said, "Invite Craig, but skip the rest of the Irvine family."
Even though Phoebe was an Irvine, Aidan knew she didn't care about the rest of them. So, he wouldn't invite them and make her uncomfortable.
"Got it," the assistant nodded.
After sorting out the guest list, Aidan went over the event plans with the assistant.
This was usually a minor thing. Normally, Aidan wouldn't put so much effort into it.
But this time felt different.
The assistant couldn't help but think that Theodore's birth was actually a good thing for Aidan. It seemed like he had become more approachable.
