The next day at Moris Hospital, after finishing a surgery, Evelyn received a call from Niall.
"Somebody's investigating your background. The other party has some big connections, and it may not be long before they find out about your domestic information," he said.
Evelyn was surprised but quickly regained her composure. "It's okay, Niall. Even if they find out, so what? I don't have anything to hide."
"Hmm, I thought you didn't want Dermot to know your identity," Niall teased.
Evelyn smiled and shrugged it off. "I don't really care whether he knows or not. If he knows, he knows. If he doesn't, I won't bring it up."
From Niall's words, she suspected that Dermot might be the one investigating her, and she thought it was possible.
"Are you busy lately? It seems like you've been in surgery every day," Niall asked. He was currently not in the country and couldn't come see her.
"A little busy, but it's better than having too much free time to overthink things," she replied.
After a few more words, they hung up. Just as Evelyn was about to continue her work, someone knocked on her office door.
The person walked in quickly, and Evelyn was surprised to see him. "Mr. Kartland?"
"Call me Keith," he said and walked up to her.
Evelyn stayed serious and asked, "Do you need something from me?"
"Sort of," Keith nodded, feeling a bit nervous under Evelyn's stern gaze.
"I'd like to invite you to lunch," he said.
Upon hearing this, Evelyn furrowed her brows. "Sorry, I have a meeting during lunchtime, so I won't be able to join you."
"Oh, is that so?" Keith looked disappointed. "Working through lunch every day is too hard on you."
Evelyn didn't say anything. She didn't think it was difficult.
"You could just be my assistant. I promise to pay you more than what you're earning at the hospital," he said.
After investigating her identity last night after the banquet, he found out that she was not only a disciple of Mr. Smith but also a famous neurosurgeon. This surprised him, but also made him more curious about this woman.
However, Evelyn's face didn't show any happiness, and she said seriously, "No need. I like my current job very much."
"Okay." Seeing her unhappy expression, Keith didn't push it any further.
Seeing that he wasn't leaving, Evelyn asked, "Do you need anything else?"
"Not really, I just wanted to know if you're free tonight," he said.
However, Evelyn stared at him for a long time before saying, "If you have something to discuss, please be direct. There's no need to ask me out to eat or anything."
Although they had a good conversation at the banquet, it was just that, nothing more. She wasn't interested in this man, especially after Aidan told her some things about Keith. Her intuition told her to stay away from him, just like Dermot.
They were not simple people, and getting involved with them wouldn't lead to anything good.
Keith was surprised by Evelyn's straight-forwardness and hesitated for a moment before asking, "Does Dr. Kyte have a boyfriend?"
That question again?
Evelyn felt complicated, took a deep breath, and told Keith directly, "Even though I don't know why Mr. Kartland is here to find me, I'll still say it. I'm not interested in you."
"Oh?" Keith was surprised and didn't seem to take rejection too well.
"If you're not interested in me, then what kind of man does Dr. Kyte like? Someone like Dermot?" he asked, with a half-smile on his face.
