Chapter 1122: No One in the Room

Mary was on edge. She'd sent Evelyn packing and had her goons take care of her, but none of them had checked back in. She had no clue if Evelyn was still kicking or not.

The knocking upstairs kept going. Mary was getting ticked off but just kept tossing and turning in bed.

Joshua had been hanging around for five minutes, and the silence from the room was starting to bug him.

Evelyn wasn't one to sleep like a log. At this hour, she should be up, and even if she wasn't, the noise should've woken her.

No servants in the castle meant he couldn't ask anyone else.

He knocked again, harder this time.

Still nothing.

Joshua was getting a bad feeling. "Evelyn, you in there? Say something, or I'm coming in."

Nada.

The castle was dead quiet.

Joshua called Brandon, who showed up fast. "Mr. Garcia, what's up?"

Brandon was still dealing with some stuff and hadn't made it back to the castle yet. Joshua's call had him puzzled.

"The room key," Joshua said, ice-cold.

Brandon didn't know what was up but didn't waste time. He quickly grabbed the key to Evelyn's room.

They opened the door, but Evelyn was gone. Long gone.

Brandon saw Joshua's grim face and felt a chill. "Mr. Garcia, Ms. Kyte..."

"Go get Mary," Joshua's voice was freezing.

Brandon hesitated but quickly went downstairs to knock on Mary's door under Joshua's icy stare.

Mary hadn't expected Joshua to just open Evelyn's door. She thought he'd leave after getting no answer.

She figured Joshua wouldn't notice Evelyn was gone until morning.

When Mary came out, Joshua was already downstairs, sitting on the living room sofa.

Mary walked over, nervous but trying to look puzzled. "Joshua, you're back? Something up?"

"Where's Evelyn?" Joshua asked, eyes locked on her.

"Evelyn?" Mary was ready for this, so she kept her cool.

"Isn't she in her room?" Mary said.

Joshua sneered, like he saw right through her. Mary felt even more uneasy.

"She's not in there," Joshua said.

Mary acted surprised. "No way! I saw her go in, and she never came out."

Brandon was shocked too and quickly said, "Mr. Garcia, could Ms. Kyte be at the beach?"

Evelyn loved the beach. If she wasn't in her room, maybe she was there.

"When did you see her go in?" Joshua asked.

"In the morning," Mary replied.

Joshua frowned, almost losing it. "In the morning?"

"Yeah, after you left, she went back to her room and told me not to bug her. Said she'd tell you I was bullying her if I did. So, why would I dare to check on her?" Mary said.

Joshua found it ridiculous. "And you didn't knock after that?"

"I knocked at lunch and dinner, but she didn't answer," Mary said, pouting. "You know I don't like her. Why would I care if she eats or not?"
