Chapter 64 Kidnapping
The next day, Ruby Kite invited Evelyn to have a meal, apologizing for her no-show yesterday.
"I used to think you were carefree, but I didn't expect you to be so serious after starting work," Evelyn said, sipping her juice and teasing.
Since the Kite family almost went bankrupt last time, Ruby Kite officially joined the Jiang family. They hadn't seen each other for a while because Ruby Kite had been busy familiarizing herself with the Jiang family's business and had no time to make an appointment.
Ruby Kite sighed helplessly. "There's no other way. My dad only has one daughter. If I don't take over the Kite Group, he can only sell the company for a pittance."
"I think it's good. It's about achieving one's own value." Except for the two years of marriage, Evelyn had rarely rested. Her ideal was to maximize her own value.
Ruby Kite couldn't understand her thinking and said with a bitter face, "You workaholics can't understand me."
"By the way, how about you and Dermot?" she asked curiously.
Evelyn rolled her eyes at her and said, "What can I have with him? At most, he knows that I am his ex-wife."
"So, he knows?" Ruby Kite was shocked, and curiosity burned in her eyes. "What was his reaction? Does he regret it?"
"Who knows if he regrets it or not? I don't care." Evelyn pouted her lips and thought about Dermot's appearance yesterday. He should... regret it a little.
Ruby Kite smirked, supporting her chin with her hands and staring at Evelyn. "You don't care? After all, he is your ex-husband."
"You also said he is an ex-husband." Evelyn said seriously, "Since he is an ex-husband, it means we have no relationship anymore."
Hearing this, Ruby Kite still felt a little regretful. "Speaking of that, Dermot is not bad. Have you not considered it?"
Evelyn looked at her with a stunned expression and reached out to touch Ruby Kite's forehead. "Are you crazy?"
"Dermot almost bankrupted your dad's company, and you are still saying he is not bad?"
"That's different. I always separate public and private matters." Ruby said seriously.
Evelyn was too lazy to argue with her and stood up. "I'm going to the restroom."
"Let's go together," Ruby Kite.
Upon hearing this, Evelyn stood up and followed Ruby to the restroom.
As they left the table, a waiter approached and poured water into Evelyn's cup from a kettle. Unnoticed by others, a white pill fell into the water.
After a short while, the two returned to the table and didn't notice anything unusual.
Evelyn picked up the glass and took a sip, unaware of anything amiss. The waiter who had been secretly observing from afar breathed a sigh of relief and sent a text message on his phone.
After finishing their meal, they left the restaurant together.
Since the Kite Group was nearby, Evelyn decided to accompany Ruby Kite there, and then she would take a taxi back.
"Evelyn..." as they walked, Ruby Kite hesitated to speak.
"What's wrong?" Evelyn looked at her, puzzled.
After a while, Ruby Kite still didn't know how to explain what had happened to her recently. That man seemed to be no ordinary person, and if she told Evelyn, it might bring trouble to her.
After some thought, she decided not to say anything for now.
"It's nothing. It's just that time passes so quickly, and in the blink of an eye, we are already facing the hardships of life." She said with smile.
Yes, time flies.
As the two reminisced about the pa
st, a van suddenly stopped at the intersection. Evelyn sensed something was wrong, but before she could react, three burly men got out of the car and grabbed her arm, dragging her towards the vehicle.
"Evelyn!" Ruby Kite exclaimed and shouted.
"Run!" That was the last word Evelyn uttered before being pulled into the car.
