Chapter 501 You Shouldn't Have Told Me

Leaving the Kyte Group building, Evelyn slid into Dermot's car, where he had been waiting for her, resisting the urge multiple times to burst in after her. It wasn’t that he feared the Kyte Group, but he didn't want to disrupt Evelyn's plans.

Thankfully, she was alright.

"How did it go?" he asked casually as he started the car.

Evelyn nodded and replied with a smile, "Pretty well, I achieved what I set out to do."

Whether she'd secured the company from Blake or orchestrated the return to the Kytes, she had triumphed—today hadn't been a waste.

Thinking this, she glanced sheepishly at Dermot. "I'm moving into the Kyte place tonight. What about you? Planning to stick around Columbia?"

She knew the train ride he took was just for her, and the thought made her feel somewhat guilty.

But there were things she had to do, putting her in a tough spot.

Dermot, for his part, didn't overthink it. He told Evelyn, "I'm staying in Columbia for a while. The Doyle Group's branch here is doing well, and I want to strike while the iron's hot, expand our presence."

"Sure, this place is the heart of America, growth is bound to be stronger." Even she was planning to set up her company's headquarters here.

"So don't worry. Wherever you are, I'll be there to protect you." His gaze on Evelyn was tender and unguarded.

The Doyle Group might still be a small entity in Columbia, but with confidence and a few years, Dermot believed it could step into the limelight and become a haven for Evelyn.

Touched, she knew deep down Dermot's actions were for her. "I trust you."

The topic was dropped, and after Evelyn gave an address, Dermot drove them there.

Upon arrival, he found it was an office site, and puzzled, he asked Evelyn, "You brought me here to set up your own company?"

The location wasn't prime in Columbia, away from the city center, but with potential for growth and an affordable building, it wasn't bad either.

"That's part of it, but there's more." Evelyn stepped out of the car, Dermot following behind.

They entered the office building and the elevator. Dermot silently stood by as she pressed the button.

Soon, they exited the elevator.

Pointing to a nearby office space nearly finished with renovations, she said, "This is the Kyte family's new office."

Dermot paused, noticing for the first time the Kyte family sign.

Quickly grasping her intent, he asked, "You're planning to move the Kytes to Columbia?"

"Yes, back in Moris City, they'd always be under someone's thumb." Here, Craig's influence wasn't as strong, and with her return to the Kyte family, she could certainly look after Ruby and her family.

Dermot gazed at Evelyn, a complex mix of emotions churning inside, before eventually letting out a resigned sigh. "You shouldn't have told me that."

He was friends with Craig. Wasn't she afraid that he might spill the beans? If Craig got wind of this and prepared himself, never mind the challenges of the Kite family moving smoothly, just escaping would become a tough nut to crack for Ruby.

"I trust you," she said, her eyes fixed on him. It was a test, a deliberate move to see if he would betray her confidence to Craig. After all, if it came down to whisking Ruby away, it would require Dermot to stay clear of the matter.

If he took Craig's side, it wouldn't be a surefire thing that she could take Ruby with her. And that would complicate matters greatly.
