Chapter 1209: Don't Owe You Anything
Evelyn didn't say jack and just hung up. She was in a foul mood and couldn't stand Dermot's BS.
On the other end, Dermot was still cruising. He stared at his phone, totally confused.
He didn't get what went down, but one thing was clear: Evelyn was pissed.
He floored it towards Kate's place.
A few minutes later, Dermot was in the living room of Kyte Manor, standing in front of Evelyn.
"Evelyn, I know you're mad, but can you tell me why? I'm seriously worried," Dermot said, looking at her all tense.
Evelyn squinted and gave him the cold shoulder.
Dermot felt a headache coming on but had no clue why she was mad. He just sat there, racking his brain to figure out what he did wrong.
And then it hit him.
He looked at Evelyn and asked, "Evelyn, are you mad 'cause Cassie is back?"
Evelyn finally opened her eyes and sneered, "So you do know why."
Dermot sighed, "Evelyn, I didn't think she mattered, so I didn't tell you."
Evelyn sat up and tossed her phone at him. "Didn't matter? Cassie sure seems to care a lot about you, huh?"
Dermot glanced at the phone, and his face darkened.
He hadn't seen this post; Cassie must've blocked him.
"I had a meeting with the Bush Group today to talk business, but she showed up. She and her brother are part of the Bush family now," Dermot explained.
Evelyn thought for a sec and remembered the Bush family was one of the top ten in the country. This got her curious.
"Cassie suddenly part of the Bush family? Is she their long-lost daughter?" Evelyn asked.
Dermot nodded. "Looks like it. Her brother Leonard is running the show now."
Evelyn found it super interesting. Cassie had been MIA for so long that she thought she'd never see her again. But now, Cassie was back as the Bush family's daughter. Life's full of surprises, right?
"Didn't you say her brother died saving you? What's the deal?" Evelyn looked at Dermot, clearly doubting his story.
Dermot quickly said, "I don't know what happened. It's weird to me too. I've got Todd looking into it, and we should know soon."
"Is that all? Haven't you thought about how Cassie being part of the Bush family makes you a good match? Got any other thoughts?" Evelyn was skeptical, considering Dermot met Cassie while trying to save her.
Dermot felt helpless. "Evelyn, what are you thinking? I'm not into her at all."
"What does she matter to me?" Dermot thought, remembering the decision to send Cassie away after the incident with Evelyn. "Even if Leonard saved me, I paid that debt a long time ago."
He didn't owe Leonard anything anymore.
Now, it seemed he not only didn't owe Leonard but should also ask him why he had come back to life.
He didn't like being played for a fool.
