Chapter 707: Pretending
Dora and Lucia's plan was naturally beyond Evelyn's knowledge, but she was not entirely unprepared.
That evening, when Dora slipped out for a clandestine meeting, Evelyn sensed trouble. Her suspicions were heightened when she discovered the identity of Dora's rendezvous, confirming her belief that Dora was up to something.
Unbeknownst to Dora at that moment, she was already under Evelyn's vigilant gaze. If she ever posed a threat to the Kyte family, Evelyn would be the first to notice her actions.
However, before Evelyn could catch Dora red-handed, Eugene found her.
"Evelyn," Eugene said, looking at the beautiful Evelyn before him, his brow furrowed.
Evelyn was surprised to see him, "Mr. Roberts, is there something you need?"
After departing from the Kyte Group, Evelyn intended to pursue a career at a hospital, as becoming a doctor was her genuine aspiration.
"There is something I want to ask you," Eugene did not deny it. "The Roberts family has lost several projects recently, and our investigation shows a significant connection to the Kyte Group."
As he spoke, he stared intently at Evelyn, trying to discern something from her eyes.
However, he was destined to be disappointed, for Evelyn truly did not know.
While Evelyn was aware that Blake and Wade had intentions concerning the Roberts family, she was unaware of their precise plans. Therefore, upon hearing Eugene's words, she was genuinely puzzled.
"Really? Perhaps there's some misunderstanding. After all, we are still collaborating."
The collaboration that Eugene had initiated with her was still ongoing. It was unclear when the Roberts family planned to reveal that the land was unsuitable for a commercial center.
"I also think it's unlikely," Eugene said, but Walter insisted that it was related to the Kyte family, so he took the opportunity to probe Evelyn's thoughts.
Evelyn smiled reassuringly at him and said, "It's great that you have that perspective. The Kyte family and the Roberts family are not just partners but also family. We would never aim to harm the Roberts family. Don't dwell on it too much."
Eugene frowned, still feeling that something was off. "But the Roberts family has indeed been very unlucky lately. Someone must be targeting us."
Evelyn glanced at him and said casually, "Could it be another family? Lucia marrying into the Allen family must have upset some people."
"The Diaz family?" Eugene immediately thought of the Diaz family, as Lucia was originally supposed to marry Hubert.
But why involve the Roberts family? Shouldn't they be focusing on the Kyte family instead?
As if knowing what he was thinking, Evelyn said, "The Diaz family wouldn't dare to go after the Kyte family."
They might not dare to go after the Kyte family, but they wouldn't be as afraid of the Roberts family, which was not as powerful as the Kyte family.
Eugene thought this was possible.
Convinced of his gullibility, Evelyn secretly cursed him as a fool but maintained a composed exterior. "Mr. Roberts, is there anything else? If not, I have other matters to attend to."
"In such a hurry? How about having a meal together?" Eugene suddenly smiled at Evelyn and reached out, trying to put his arm around her shoulder.
Evelyn dodged, a look of disgust flashing in her eyes. "I have things to do. I'm leaving."
Without waiting for Eugene to say anything more, she got up and left.
Watching her walk away, Eugene's gaze turned dark and sinister. "Acting all innocent, are you? Once the Kyte family crumbles, we'll see how confident you are then."
At that moment, he was determined to confront Evelyn, making her kneel and plead for his mercy.
"What are you looking at?" Not far away, Margaret walked up to Dermot, following his gaze to see Eugene's sinister expression.
