Chapter 650 People are Indeed Fickle
"Those two look quite compatible," Margaret said casually.
Dermot looked at her, and she hurriedly explained, "Although the Kyte family and the Roberts family are relatives, Evelyn and Eugene are not related by blood, as everyone knows."
Even though Blake claimed to the outside world that Evelyn was his and Sarah's lost eldest daughter, everyone wasn't foolish and could guess that Evelyn was not Sarah's daughter at all.
The words "not related by blood" seemed to prick Dermot, and no matter how he looked at the two, he found them annoying.
"Let's go," Margaret spoke up.
Dermot nodded and left the restaurant with Margaret.
He had come here today for business and hadn't expected to run into Evelyn, much less see her with Eugene.
After the two left, Eugene turned his gaze back, "That man is your ex-husband, right?"
He naturally had thoroughly investigated Evelyn, so he could easily recognize Dermot.
"Yes," Evelyn admitted openly. An ex-husband wasn’t some scandalous relationship.
"I heard the Doyle family recently called back some people. It seems Dermot is among them." As the top of the ten families, it was normal for people to keep an eye on any movements of the Doyle family.
Evelyn remained silent, but Eugene continued, "The others probably don't have a chance to compete for the heir position, but I think this Dermot is quite capable."
"Do you know the person next to Dermot?" Eugene deliberately teased.
Evelyn shook her head, not knowing.
"She’s the eldest daughter of the Martin family. She didn't use to be very active in business, but it seems that has changed now," Eugene said with a smile, his eyes fixed on Evelyn, trying to discern any other emotions from her face.
Unfortunately, he saw nothing; Evelyn remained indifferent, seemingly unconcerned.
Eugene wasn't ready to give up. He continued, "If Dermot manages to collaborate with Miss Martin, his chances of success are certainly higher than those of other outsiders."
"However, there's not much of a chance; he doesn't really think that Grandpa Doyle of the Doyle family would hand over the family to an outsider, does he?"
Although they all shared the Doyle surname, everyone knew that, in the eyes of the Doyle family, people like Dermot who were recalled were essentially outsiders.
Listening to Eugene belittling Dermot, Evelyn was displeased. "How do you know it's impossible?"
"It's not just me; it's a common understanding," he said. Nobody believed that Grandpa Doyle would hand over the family to an outsider.
Evelyn pursed her lips, knowing deep down that he was right. "What if? What if he is exceptional enough to earn Grandpa Doyle's approval?"
Evelyn believed Dermot was excellent, so she thought it wasn't impossible.
However, Eugene didn't see it that way. "It's not about being excellent; it's about bloodline inheritance."
Seeing how serious Eugene was about this, Evelyn understood that he was actually correct.
And this principle wasn't just known to them; Dermot was probably well aware of it, too.
But judging by his actions, he seemed determined to try anyway.
Where did Dermot's confidence come from?
Was it from Miss Martin?
"I heard Dermot used to chase after you relentlessly, but he seems to have given up so quickly. People are indeed fickle."
"Now that he considers himself part of the Doyle family and has Miss Martin by his side, he naturally looks down on you," Eugene said, his eyes fixed on Evelyn.
Evelyn's face darkened, and she glared at him, knowing he was deliberately provoking her. "I don't need you to remind me."
