Chapter 1034: Hope As You Said

At Dermot's villa, Evelyn saw Henry and greeted him with a smile, "Hey, Henry."

"Evelyn?" Henry was surprised. "Did Dermot invite you?"

Henry had just arrived in Golombia, and only Dermot knew about his trip. Unless Dermot had told Evelyn, she wouldn't have shown up so quickly.

"I live next door," Evelyn pointed to the house next door, avoiding any mention of her issues with Joshua.

Henry was momentarily stunned, then smiled. "No wonder Dermot chose this place."

Evelyn gave a dry laugh, wanting to change the subject. "How's your health? Feeling any better?"

"Just getting old," Henry sighed, accepting it. "Have a seat; let's catch up."

Evelyn sat across from him, noticing his lack of energy and feeling a bit worried. "Dermot's probably taken over the Doyle family by now. You can just relax and enjoy life."

"Yes, Dermot has never let me down," Henry said proudly.

Though he didn't think much of Benjamin and considered him a failure, he had to admit Benjamin did one thing right: having Dermot, which gave him an outstanding grandson.

But Henry's gaze shifted to Evelyn. "I'm not worried about his career. What concerns me is that he hasn't settled down and started a family yet."

Evelyn felt awkward, especially with Henry looking at her like she was his granddaughter-in-law.

"You'll see it happen," Evelyn said, trying to reassure him.

"Really? I hope so," Henry smiled, though inwardly he was frustrated that Dermot hadn't won Evelyn over yet.

With New Year's Eve approaching, Henry suggested, "Evelyn, join us for dinner tomorrow. It'd be lonely with just Dermot and me."

"Sorry, Henry, I have dinner plans with Aidan and the others," Evelyn said, lowering her head. She knew this would disappoint Henry but couldn't agree.

Henry briefly looked disappointed but quickly composed himself. "It's fine, New Year's Eve is for family."

"But Dermot and I are planning to set off fireworks in the evening. You should join us," Evelyn said, not wanting Henry to feel too down.

Henry's eyes lit up, thinking Dermot wasn't entirely clueless. "Alright, let's do that tomorrow night."

As they talked, Dermot parked the car and soon entered the living room.

Seeing him, Evelyn stood up. "I'm heading out. Goodbye."

"Okay, I'll walk you out," Dermot said, joining her.

Evelyn wanted to refuse but saw Dermot's determined look and silently walked out.

The two villas were close, just a two or three-minute walk to Joshua's villa. Dermot felt a bit regretful. "I wish time could stop right now."

Evelyn blushed and shot him a look. "Go on, keep Henry company," she urged.

"Okay, don't forget about tomorrow night," Dermot reminded as they parted.

Evelyn nodded and walked into the villa, disappearing from Dermot's view.

As he watched her leave, Dermot sighed, feeling a deep, unspoken emptiness.

Another year had passed, and he wondered if by the next New Year, he might finally be part of Evelyn's family.
