Chapter 125 The promise of the older generation

Six o'clock, quitting time.

Evelyn finished packing her things and was about to leave the hospital when she received a call from Dermot.

"Mr. Doyle, is there something you need?" she said absentmindedly while packing up.

"How is Mr. Hamilton doing?" Dermot asked, his tone calm, sounding like the boss checking on work progress.

Hearing this, Evelyn reported truthfully, "Everything is normal. He should be able to be discharged in a few more days."

Regardless, Dermot was indeed the major shareholder of Morris Hospital now, so it wasn't wrong to say that he was Evelyn's boss. If the boss inquired about work, she naturally had to give a proper report.

Dermot murmured in response and fell into silence, leaving Evelyn puzzled.

Seeing that dinner time with Greg was approaching as they had planned, she had to ask, "Does Mr. Doyle have something else?"

"Do you have free time tonight? I'd like to invite you to dinner," Dermot said, then hurriedly added, "Mainly, it's because Grandpa wants to see you."

There was no other way. He knew that if he tried to invite Evelyn to dinner alone, she would definitely refuse, so he had to use Grandpa Doyle as an excuse.

Evelyn frowned and immediately replied, "I might not be able to tonight. I can go visit Grandpa Doyle at Doyle Mansion another day."

"Do you have plans tonight?" Dermot asked, with some disappointment.

Todd had told him that under these circumstances, he had to actively treat Evelyn well to dispel her dissatisfaction with him, so he worked up the courage to make this call to Evelyn, but he didn't expect...

"Yes, I do have plans." For some reason, she felt a bit guilty.

Arranging to have dinner with someone in advance should be considered having plans, right? She reassured herself.

"Alright." Dermot hung up the phone shortly after. There was certainly some disappointment, but it was fine, he had plenty of time.

Meanwhile, right after the call between Evelyn and Dermot ended, Greg appeared at the office door, "Are you done with work?"

"Almost done. Let's go," Evelyn said, holding her bag and leaving the hospital with Greg.

They didn't hide anything, which caused envy among the people in the hospital.

"Dr. Kyte is really lucky. I heard Greg is from the Hamilton family in Colombia, quite impressive," someone said.

"How impressive? Can he compare to Mr. Doyle?" the person speaking was Dermot's loyal fan. In her eyes, no one was more impressive than Dermot.

The person sneered at her and disdainfully said, "While the Doyle family is the biggest in our Morris City, the Hamilton family from Colombia is on a whole different level."

"Hmph! I don't believe it."

Their lively discussion continued, but Evelyn, who had already left the hospital, was unaware of it.
Sitting in Greg's car, she didn't ask where they were going to eat. After all, he wouldn't dare to sell her out in broad daylight.

"Why did you marry Dermot in the first place? As far as I know, you two didn't seem to have any connection before getting married." The gloomy atmosphere in the car made it uncomfortable, so Greg had to break the silence.

Evelyn shifted her gaze from the window and looked at him. "It was an agreement made by the older generation."

In fact, Evelyn herself wasn't clear why her grandfather made such a decision. He always said that this way she would have someone to protect her, but in the twenty-plus years of her life, she had hardly encountered any danger. Why would she need protection?

When she recalled how she had sought out the Doyle family back then, after Grandpa Doyle knew about her grandfather's arrangement, he hadn't refused and actually let Dermot marry her.

She knew this wasn't normal, but with her grandfather's passing and Grandpa Doyle refusing to say anything, she had no way of knowing the reasons.

"An agreement of the older generation?" Greg was surprised. "I didn't expect you to be the kind of person who listens to elders in arranging marriages."

In his eyes, Evelyn was a smart and independent woman. Such a woman should have her own thoughts on her marriage, so how could she...

Evelyn glanced at him and chuckled. "Mr. Hamilton, you seem to be out of line here."

In reality, they knew nothing about each other except for their names.
