Chapter 1112: Don't Be Afraid, I'm Here
Just as she was starting to freak out, the salesperson suddenly grabbed her hand and, under Evelyn's wide-eyed stare, scribbled something in her palm.
Evelyn stepped out of the fitting room, feeling way more chill.
But that sentence kept flashing in her mind: "Don't be afraid; I'm here."
Dermot was here.
For a sec, Evelyn didn't know how to handle her excitement.
But she had to play it cool, couldn't let it show.
"Very beautiful." Joshua's words snapped her back to reality, and she smiled at him. "Thanks."
In the end, Joshua bought the dress, plus all the other clothes he picked for Evelyn, and had them shipped to the island, enough to last her years.
Maybe Joshua never really thought about how long Evelyn would be stuck on the island.
Or maybe he did think about it but just didn't wanna face it.
They ditched the shopping and hit up a restaurant for dinner.
The vibe between them was super weird. No one said a word, but it was still kinda chill.
Anyone could see these two were all smiles on the outside but totally clashing on the inside.
"Evelyn, what do you think of this place?" Joshua asked, sounding kinda nervous, like he really wanted her to dig it.
Evelyn was munching on her steak and gave a faint smile. "It's nice. The customs and culture here are way different from back home."
"Really?" Joshua put down his knife and fork, looking serious. "Would you wanna stay here?"
Evelyn didn't really wanna go there with him, knowing they'd just butt heads.
But since Joshua brought it up, she couldn't dodge it, so she decided to be straight with him. "Sorry, I wouldn't."
"Maybe for you, it doesn't matter where you live, but for me, it's different. I prefer Libertonia; that's my home."
Joshua gave a bitter smile, not shocked by her answer. "I knew you wouldn't agree."
"So, since you know I don't wanna stay here, when are you gonna send me back?" Evelyn asked.
Their eyes locked, and Joshua was speechless. "In a while."
Evelyn chuckled, "In a while? You sure about that?"
She knew Joshua had no plans of sending her back; he was just stalling, hoping she'd change her mind.
She saw this coming, so she wasn't bummed out.
They dropped the topic, eating their steak in silence like nothing happened.
After dinner, they hopped on a plane back to the island.
At the airport, Dermot watched the plane take off, pulled out a tablet, and saw a little red dot moving away.
He had someone tracking it, determined to find the island's exact spot. If he couldn't snag Evelyn while she was off-island, he'd have to go there himself.
Of course, he still hoped to grab her while she was in the city, 'cause the odds were better.
Back on the island, Mary found out Joshua took Evelyn shopping without her and was fuming.
"Joshua!" Mary saw them return and stormed up. "Why didn't you call me when you went shopping?"
"Weren't you busy?" Joshua replied coolly, keeping some space from her and even shielding Evelyn behind him.
Mary was pissed. "Those things can be handled by others; it's not like I have to do them myself."
If Mary had known they were going shopping, she would've insisted on tagging along.
