Chapter 147 Who Would Be Friends with Their Ex-Husband?
Inside the restaurant, Evelyn didn't showing polite to Dermot. She hadn't been eating well during these days at the police station.
It wasn't because she was worried about not being able to leave; it was because the food inside was not good.
"If you like it, eat more," Dermot smiled and picked up some food for her.
While eating, Evelyn's phone rang, and she answered, "Greg?"
"Yes, it's me," Greg replied, "I've heard about the situation in Moris City. Are you okay?"
"I'm fine, just came out of the police station," Evelyn answered while eating.
"That's good. I'm not very familiar with the police station in Moris City, so I can't help you much, but don't worry, I will control the online comments," Greg said.
Evelyn felt that her character was still pretty good. There were so many people willing to help her when something happened. "Okay, thank you."
The two chatted for a few more sentences, and Evelyn hung up the phone. When she looked up, she noticed Dermot's face was dark and unbearable to look at. She didn't care much, to her, Greg was considered a friend, but Dermot... She still hadn't figured out what their relationship was.
She didn't say anything, but Dermot couldn't hold back anymore. "When did you become so close with Greg? Aren't you suspicious of his intentions towards you?"
"Oh? Then why don't you tell me what he's after?" Evelyn smiled and retorted, reminding him, "He's wealthier than me and doesn't lack women."
Dermot was speechless. "Just because of this, you conclude that he has no ulterior motives? Well, I'm wealthier than you and don't lack women. Why do you treat me so poorly?"
Evelyn looked at him without saying a word. Her eyes had conveyed everything.
Dermot understood.
It was still because he was her ex-husband.
"Dermot, it's destined that we can't have a normal relationship. Who would be friends with their ex-husband?" Evelyn advised him kindly.
However, Dermot wasn't concerned and said to her, "I didn't plan on being friends with you either."
Evelyn: "..."
"My intentions were clear. It wasn't to be just friends with you, but to be your boyfriend." He felt the need to make it clear so that Evelyn wouldn't think he was just fooling around.
Evelyn didn't want to speak. She didn't even want to be friends with him, let alone have a boyfriend. She had no idea what this man was thinking.
After the meal, Dermot escorted Evelyn back to Barberts Apartment.
"Rest well, leave the rest to me," Dermot told her.
"No need, I can handle the rest myself."
“Why do you always refuse my good intentions?" Dermot was helpless, feeling frustrated as well.
"I'm just not used to troubling others. There are many things I can handle on my own." Dependency is a scary habit that once formed, is difficult to break.
Dermot took a deep breath, trying hard to restrain the anger in his heart. He said, "I understand, you're used to being independent."
"You understand, that's good. It's not that I have anything against you, it's just how I've always been." Her grandfather had always told her to be independent and not rely on anyone, and she had grown accustomed to it.
the anger in Dermot's heart disappeared without a trace, replaced by a touch of tenderness.
She could be so independent, which meant she must have gone through a lot. Dermot regretted not appearing by her side earlier.
Evelyn walked into the complex while Dermot stayed in place and didn't leave.
"I can be your support forever," Dermot spoke, saying it to Evelyn's back.
Evelyn paused in her steps but didn't turn around. She just waved her hand at Dermot before disappearing from sight.
