Chapter 950: Are You Sure You Want to Do This Now
"She's my friend, Evelyn Kyte," Greg said casually, not wanting Wendy to dig too deep.
A friend?
Wendy's intuition kicked in. She could tell from Greg's look that he felt more for Evelyn. Even though nothing seemed off, she sensed trouble.
"Hi, I'm Greg's girlfriend, Wendy Cook," Wendy said with a sweet smile, extending her hand.
Evelyn was surprised Greg had a girlfriend but didn't pry. She figured it was good for Greg to have someone.
"Hello," Evelyn replied, shaking Wendy's hand.
"Greg's friends are my friends. Let's hang out sometime," Wendy suggested.
Evelyn nodded. "I should get going."
"Okay," Greg said, watching her leave.
After Evelyn left, Wendy turned to Greg. "Ms. Kyte is from the Kyte family, right?"
There weren't many Kytes in Golombia, so she was curious.
Greg ignored her, but Wendy pressed on. "Is she the head of the Kyte family?"
Only certain families knew about the Kytes.
Greg's face turned cold. "Do you really want to talk about this now?"
His grandfather had just passed, and he wasn't in the mood for anything else. He just wanted to arrange the funeral.
Wendy realized she overstepped. "Sorry, I was just curious."
"You crossed the line," Greg said icily.
He understood Wendy had been pampered and lacked empathy. She might seem sad, but she wasn't really grieving.
He didn't expect others to mourn like he did, but she shouldn't have asked irrelevant questions.
He asked Wendy to leave the hospital while he arranged Cliff's funeral.
Evelyn returned to the doctor's office, thinking about what Cliff had said. She called her father to discuss the news, hoping it might help find her mother.
Blake answered quickly, sounding busy. "What's up, Evelyn? Something wrong?"
Evelyn smiled. "Just wondering if you have any updates."
"Sort of. I found someone from back then," Blake said, on his way to meet them.
Evelyn was surprised Blake found someone based on an old photo. She admired him.
She told Blake what Cliff had said. "If Mom went with those people, does that mean she knew them?"
"Yes," Blake agreed.
"Could they be from Mom's family?" Evelyn speculated, thinking it was likely.
Her mother had escaped her family, and after giving birth, was taken back by them.
Blake was silent, then said, "It's possible, but if they were family, I should have found them."
He had photos and her name. With his resources, it should have been easy to find her in Libertonia.
But he hadn't found a clue all these years.
Evelyn concluded, "So, either someone hid her traces, or Mom was just an ordinary person from a small village, which is why we can't find anything."
