Chapter 1327 Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (2)
In the evening, with the maternity nurse showing him the ropes, Aidan let the baby snooze on his chest. Meanwhile, Phoebe's surgery wrapped up.
Evelyn was about to change and check on the baby when Dermot stopped her. He cracked the door open just a bit and let Evelyn peek inside. "See? Someone's got it under control."
Aidan was so wrapped up in baby duty that he totally forgot about his plans to hit up the Catholic church.
"How'd the surgery go?" Dermot asked.
"Seems like it went well for now, but she needs to rest and can't take care of the baby," Evelyn replied.
Dermot chuckled, "Aidan's killing it with the baby. Maybe he can handle the mom too."
"You mean..." Evelyn started laughing too.
Aidan had no clue about Dermot and Evelyn's scheme. When Evelyn showed up not just with the baby but also with Phoebe after her discharge, he was floored.
"Evelyn, what are you doing?" He was already wiped from baby duty, and now he had to take care of a patient too?
Evelyn waved him off. "Aidan, Phoebe's the baby's mom. We can't just leave her hanging, can we?"
"The Irvine family..."
"She wasn't doing great at the Irvine's anyway, and Craig's too busy to take care of her every day," Evelyn cut him off.
Aidan frowned, and Evelyn kept going, "Plus, she went through a lot to have the baby. She definitely wants to see the baby every day. Letting her stay here is the best move. You can always hire more help if you need it."
Aidan had a headache.
Seeing his silence, Evelyn smiled, knowing her plan was working.
After hashing things out with Aidan, Evelyn went to find Phoebe. "Take care of yourself while you're here. If you need anything, just call me. Aidan might be stubborn, but he's got a good heart and really cares about you."
Phoebe said, "Evelyn, I don't think this is necessary."
"Do you want the baby to grow up without a dad?" Evelyn asked.
Phoebe didn't answer. Of course, she didn't want that.
"If you don't want that, then listen to me. Over time, Aidan will see you both as family. Just be patient," Evelyn said, feeling good. As long as Aidan wasn't thinking about the Catholic church, she was happy.
Phoebe didn't say anything more. She didn't care much about how Aidan treated her; she cared about the baby.
Even though she had said before that she could raise the baby alone, now she was sick. Plus, she didn't want the baby to grow up without a dad, so she was tempted by Evelyn's suggestion.
Evelyn patted her shoulder. "For the baby's sake, hang in there."
"I understand." In the end, Phoebe agreed, because she cared about the baby.
After giving her instructions, Evelyn left Aidan's place, giving the two some time alone.
Aidan came downstairs, and Phoebe was still in the living room. She was undergoing chemo and needed to go to the hospital a lot. She felt a bit guilty when she saw Aidan. "I'm sorry, I didn't want to..."
"Don't sweat it. Just rest up. Let me know when you need to go to the hospital, and I'll take you," Aidan said, seeming to have made peace with it.
Phoebe was stunned, unable to believe it. "You..."
"For the baby's sake, you need to get better," Aidan said again.
Phoebe's eyes welled up with tears, and she nodded hard. "Okay, I will get better."
She thought to herself, 'For the baby, and for you.'
