Chapter 61 Evelyn, let's talk
She looked up and their eyes met.
Evelyn didn't know if it was her imagination, but she felt that Dermot's gaze toward her was different from before.
"I'll pay for this meal," Dermot said.
Evelyn chuckled lightly and looked at him with her chin resting on her hand. "I can afford a meal. So there's no need for Mr. Doyle to pay."
She didn't have a good impression of Dermot. She even found him annoying to some extent, and sitting down to eat with him, Evelyn felt that she would lose her appetite.
"Evelyn, let's talk," Dermot ultimately gave up.
This made Evelyn even more surprised. What could they possibly have to talk about?
"Let's forget about everything that happened before and start over. What do you think?" he asked, feeling anxious.
Evelyn laughed at his words and then shook her head under Dermot's gaze. "Not interested."
"Why? If it's about what happened with the Kite family, I can cooperate with them again. Isn't that enough?"
But Evelyn still shook her head. She leaned back in her chair and looked at the man across from her as if she was watching a play.
Dermot almost lost his temper, but then he remembered that she was his ex-wife, and no matter how he looked at it, he was the one who had wronged her, so he suppressed his anger.
"Then how can you calm down?" he ask
ed, as if he had run out of options.
Evelyn stared at Dermot for a while, and then said, "Actually, you already know, don't you?"
As she spoke, Dermot froze.
"I slapped you last night, but today you not only didn't come looking for trouble, but you also came to make amends. It's quite unusual," she said.
"Besides the possibility of you being possessed by someone else, the only other explanation is that you know everything."
She wasn't a fool. On the contrary, Evelyn had always been a clever person since she was young.
In the elevator this morning, she had already felt that Dermot's attitude was strange, but she didn't realize it at the time. But now, she could be sure that this man already knew about her being his ex-wife.
After a long silence, Dermot nodded. "I only found out last night, too. Why didn't you tell me before?"
If Dermot had known that Evelyn was his ex-wife the first time they met, perhaps there would have been fewer misunderstandings later on.
However, Evelyn didn't care about this at all and laughed, "What does it matter if you know or not? We are strangers anyway."
Dermot looked at her. For some reason, his heart felt heavy upon hearing her say they were strangers.
"Regarding the Kite family..."
"Not necessary," Evelyn interrupted, her face turning slightly cold. "You don't have to collaborate with the Doyle Group to survive. Mr. Doyle can stay with the Ackers family."
Her refusal was firm, and even if Ruby Kite was present, she would still refuse.
No one wanted such a crisis to happen again.
Dermot didn't say anything more, but after a moment of silence, he spoke again, "In the past two years, I was the one at fault. I didn't know..."
"You didn’t know what?"
Evelyn interrupted him again, annoyance evident on her face. "Didn't you know how I look? Or didn't you know that I'm not as vulgar as you imagined?"
Dermot didn't answer, but the truth was that he didn't know both things.
Evelyn took a deep breath, feeling that she had become too agitated, which wasn't her usual demeanor.
After calming down a bit, she said, "Since we're already divorced, let's go our separate ways from now on. I hope Mr. Doyle understands that I don't want to see you."
She spoke harshly, not leaving Dermot any face.
Dermot did want to mend his relationship with Evelyn, but it didn't mean that he would endlessly tolerate her.
"I understand," Dermot nodded, got up with a serious face, and said, "Then I wish you all the best, Ms. Kyte."
"Thank you, Mr. Doyle," Evelyn replied.
