Chapter 567 Trouble at Aidan's

Before Evelyn could voice her refusal, everyone had already deposited their gifts and departed, leaving her alone with a heap of groceries and a selection of local specialties.

Tears welled up in Evelyn's eyes as she took in the sight of eggs and local products strewn across the floor. A swirl of emotions washed over her, solidifying her determination to persist in her medical career.

She was well aware that she could lead a comfortable life by taking over the reins of the company and inheriting the Kyte family's business empire. Such a path could undoubtedly increase her wealth. However, the sense of fulfillment that she derived from being a doctor was something that money could never replace.

Instead of taking the gifts for herself, she chose to share them with the entire hospital staff. After all, it wasn't solely her efforts that deserved recognition.

Upon leaving the hospital, Evelyn didn't head home. Instead, she sought out Niall.

When she laid eyes on him, she almost believed she had mistaken him for someone else.

They hadn't seen each other for some time, but could this dapper man in a suit and glasses truly be her Niall?

"Evelyn," Niall greeted her with a warm smile.

Only when she saw that familiar grin did Evelyn dare to confirm that it was indeed Niall. "Niall, you've changed so much that I barely recognized you," she admitted.

"Your Niall is now one of the rising stars of Morris City, so I have to dress the part," he replied humorously. His company was thriving, and he was just beginning to establish his name among Morris City's affluent circles.

Despite his young age and the company's recent establishment, everyone held high expectations for him, dubbing him the next Dermot.

However, he detested that comparison.

Why should he aspire to be the next Dermot when he could aim to be the next Jobs?

As Evelyn followed him into his office, the more she observed of Niall's company, the more she found herself admiring him.

Some things truly boiled down to talent. Aidan possessed that talent, and to her surprise, so did Niall. It seemed that she was the only one lacking a flair for business.

Upon entering Niall's office, his secretary poured a cup of tea for Evelyn. "Try this, it's a new blend I got and it tastes quite good."

"Sure," Evelyn agreed, sipping her tea as she took in the surroundings of Niall's office.

"Evelyn, you returned to Morris City to say goodbye, didn't you?" Niall asked, having somewhat guessed her intentions.

She didn't deny it, instead nodding in affirmation. "I wouldn't say goodbye. It's just that I'll be in Columbia for a while, but I'll still come back to see you at any time and anywhere."

"No worries, Columbia isn't that far. I can visit anytime," Niall assured her, taking it in stride.

Evelyn agreed. It really wasn't too far away. "What about Aidan? Didn't he mention he would be back soon? I haven't heard anything about him," she inquired, her mind filled with questions.

She had been too preoccupied to call and check. But now that she thought about it, it felt strange.

Upon hearing Evelyn's inquiry about Aidan, Niall's expression turned awkward.

After an uneasy chuckle and a struggle to find the right words, he managed to say, "Something came up with Aidan. He probably won't be back for a while."

"What happened?" Evelyn probed further.

"I'm not quite sure about the details. You'll have to ask him when he returns," Niall replied, careful not to reveal too much.

He knew the truth, but he dared not disclose it.

Doing so would only incite Evelyn to berate Aidan.

Rather than that, he was aware of Aidan's feelings for Evelyn. He also knew that Aidan himself probably wouldn't want her to know what had transpired.

Evelyn frowned, sensing that something was amiss. But since Niall remained tight-lipped, she decided not to press further and said, "I'll give him a call later."

Niall didn't respond to that. He simply figured that even if Evelyn called Aidan, he still wouldn't divulge what had happened.

Of course, he wouldn't voice that either. Otherwise, Evelyn would surely suspect that he knew the whole story.

To prevent her from pressing him further, he thought it best to maintain his silence.
