Chapter 1326: Extra: Aidan and Phoebe (1)

Craig spilled the beans, feeling like total crap afterward. "Aidan had given me a heads-up, saying her condition was bad and I should check on her, but I blew it off. If I had just gone to see her, maybe things wouldn't be this messed up."

Phoebe had a brain tumor messing with her intracranial nerves, causing some serious bleeding, and she was in a really bad spot.

Evelyn was drowning in guilt. Phoebe had told her about these killer headaches before. Evelyn had suggested a brain CT scan, but Phoebe had nixed it for the baby's sake.

Looking back, the red flags were all there. If they had just acted sooner, maybe things could've been different.

Evelyn got it, though. She knew what choice Phoebe, as a mom, would make. Even if she had found out earlier, she probably wouldn't have ended the pregnancy for treatment.

As she sighed to herself, Craig turned to her and said, "You're a top-notch neurosurgeon, right? They say you're super talented. This kind of surgery should be a piece of cake for you, right?"

"Craig, chill out first," Dermot said, stepping in front of Evelyn. "She doesn't even know the full story yet. How can she operate on Phoebe?"

Evelyn snapped back to reality and looked at Craig. "Don't worry; I'll do my best with this surgery."

Then, Evelyn took off to contact the emergency room to get the lowdown on Phoebe's condition.

As for the baby, none of them could deal with it right now.

Evelyn had a thought and shot a message to Dermot, asking him to notify Aidan.

She figured that even if the surgery went well, Phoebe wouldn't be able to take care of the baby anytime soon. As the baby's dad, Aidan had to step up.

Even though they had an agreement and Aidan had paid Phoebe well, things had changed. Evelyn still hoped he'd come to help with the baby.

She also asked Dermot to set up a paternity test for the baby and Aidan. They needed to know if the baby was really his.

After sorting all that out, Evelyn headed into the emergency room.

Aidan was floored when he got the call.

His baby was born, and the baby's mom was in critical condition, so now he was the only one left to take care of the baby?

He stared at the suitcase in front of him, totally lost in thought.

He had already started packing, planning to leave early the next morning, but now this.

Despite being all over the place, Aidan rushed over.

At the hospital, he saw his baby.

Maybe the whole blood bond thing is real. The baby, who had been crying non-stop, chilled out as soon as Aidan showed up.

Dermot walked up behind him. "I'll grab a few strands of your hair for a paternity test."

Just as he was about to do it, Aidan stopped him. "No need; he's my baby."

The kid's eyes and tiny face looked just like his. Aidan didn’t need a test to know the baby was his.

Dermot didn't push it. As long as Aidan accepted it, that was enough.

He filled Aidan in on Phoebe's condition and said, "For now, you need to take care of the baby. If you're clueless, it might be smart to hire a maternity nurse."

Of course, Aidan had no clue. He looked at the tiny baby and had no idea what to do.

He took Dermot's advice, hired a maternity nurse for the baby, and bought a ton of baby stuff.

Funny thing, he thought he'd be totally freaked out by this baby, but now that he actually saw him, he felt pretty stoked.
